what kinda water clarity do you guys have over on Centerville?

Posted

Centerville is a stained lake. I would guess there's less than 4 feet of visibility. Hence, glow and flash lures are necessary most of the time. I've caught some 'eyes on a silver/glow pimple and crappies on a red glow Frostee.

same over on Peltier - very dark water, usually have best luck on glow hooks, small minnows. Finally caught a Wallygator last year, probably by accident, they (dnr) claim they net alot of walleyes out of there but not sure they are talking about the same lake. Does anybody ever catch any of the Catfish through the ice they got out there?

Centerville had 8" last Saturday night. Looked like 5" of nice solid ice and 3" of frozen slush.

are people going out on centerville with atv's and permanet houses yet?

Posted

Centerville and Peltier are under rated and under fished, but then agian most people lack the time and knowledge to fish a body of water with little or no structure. Focus on the abnormalities. By the way the maps are bad.

Posted

EYEBALLS, yeah I've wandered a bit on Peltier with my vex and went..HUH?... thats isn't on any map..thats what I like about that lake though is that it is tough to fish.

I wouldn't say that Centerville is underfished. In fact, quite the opposite is true in my experience in the winter. We were out last saturday night and there must've been 20 portables out on that little lake - no exaggeration! Some nice crappies but small walleyes that need to grow up another year!

Matchman, yeah I saw that Sunday night and thought someone was having a party or something, Spoke to someone last year and said fishing was good until everyone started showing up and then the fishing got ****ty - dinky wally's, etc.. both them lakes it seems to me are early early ice lakes and the minute the car, atv's, sleds show up it done.

It is true, the preasure in the winter can be somewhat heavy, but I have gone to both lakes many times in the summer and fall and been the only boat on the lake (weekends are a different story). Both lakes seem to be spring and winter lakes. And from what I noticed most of the people fish one spot until the fish quit and that's the end of it.

I've been out fishing on peltire and been catching a lot of nice bluegills mixed in with the crappies.

does anyone fish perch on pelteir? did well in the summer but never fished in the winter

Posted

Chub, The only perch I catch during the winter are dinky feeder perch. Bite hasn't been that good either, put in 5 hours last night and came up with 5 crappies. Has anyone ever caught anything after 9pm on that lake?. Seems to me the bite always without failure stops at 9pm.

Where do you guys go out from on Peltier and Centerville? I live over by 35W and Lex., and have wanted to try these lakes but don't know about ice conditions, parking, etc. Any help appreciated.

Boatlessinblaine,

The two access points for Centerville are on the east and north shores. The east access is walk on only. The north access is basically the parking lot for Waterworks nightclub and you can drive on there. As of Saturday 12/13, there was 8" of ice. My guess is that it's getting near a foot now but it'd definitely be wise to check.

i was out on centerville today in the mob of people. caught some crappies. saw one truck out there but i don't recomend driving out just yet. there is about 8 inches of solid ice then 2 more of the frozen slush. Any one who goes out to centerville and catches one of those 12 inch walleyes think before you put it in the pail. it's a 12 inch walleye for crying out loud. let them ones get bigger.

best of luck fishing

was out at the house on Peltier last and got nawting from 5;30 - 8;30.

Posted

Looks like a snowmobile or a person went throught in the South side of Peltier in front of the culvert.

Posted

That spot ALWAYS has soft ice on it and usually the dnr or someone puts a "Thin Ice" sign on it. Hopefully it was a sled and not a body.

I was reading the Coon Rapids Hearld and noticed that they are going to be putting an areation system on Peltier and Centerville.. I didn't realize that they got a freeze out but what they hey, it might make fishing better.

Two of us were out on Centerville, walking out from the east side road in 17" of water just south of the mob area.

Fished them hard & caught nothing from 7:30 PM - 11 PM.

Good Luck...

I'm now starting to get a complex.. moved the house to deeper water today, put her up on blocks because of the water on top of the ice and commenced to get blanked again..I could see them on the vex, come up to the bait, bump it and go away..if I tried to finesse them what so ever they left immediately. Anyone else having this problem this year out there? tried waxes also.

anyone been out on centerville or peltire in the past couple of days. just wondering how much ice is out there. and a report.

Posted

Spent 3 hours at the house last night on Peltier, missed 1 caught 2, marked lots of fish but very hesitant to bite, actually the bite started getting better the later it got. Ice in good condition, slippery with the inch of snow on it. Currently I'm hoping for a late season rally because the early season has s***ed.

Barely had time and data to post a few random daily pics!  😄   Iffen you’re self banned, how’d ya know? 😉   Sunday - Tuesday hunt near Yankton, SD.  We found ourselves there between two of the big pushes north.  Adults first, pushing the ice line north, slipped through a couple days before we got there and the second juvie push held up by the storm that went through the night we traveled.  Our best day was Monday.  Sunny and warm with a nice south wind.  Day 3 was cool with a stiff northeast wind bringing in another storm.     A select few groups did well with birds coming off Lewis and Clark lake but we weren’t in their path.  We packed up early and hit the road.  We headed north and found them between Brookings and Watertown.  Saw 100’s of thousands at the ice line.

Crazy, about 50 Robin's hit our yard!  Not sure what their eating but none are in any of the neighbors yards around us?  Had to cut video down so it would run.  20250319_175454.mp4
