I know this is off the subject, but something we all should know and at least think about.

Dead -- do you know anything more on this?

Lead found in Minnesota venison: Is there a safety risk?

The discovery has potential ramifications for Minnesota's half-million deer hunters and the state's 1.3 million deer herd. Officials don't know whether the problem is widespread and can't advise hunters whether their venison is safe to eat.

Most of the Deermeat I have ever eaten died of lead poisoning. Other than a few roadkills and bowlills!!

I read something about this the other day. I don't know if there is anything to it or not. People have been killing deer with lead projectiles for centuries. The last few years I've gone almost strictly to bowhunting, so I'm not too worried.

If there is a legitimate risk it would be nice to see the DNR do some more in depth studies on it and get some information out there.

Hit, you probably know more about this than I do. I think the Dept. of Health is behind this, not the DNR. So far any implications for adverse health effects are inconclusive. More research needs to be done.

I find it interesting that humans have harvested game for consumption for centuries using lead bullets, and only now this issue is being investigated. There's probably some anti-hunting group that was behind the whole food shelf venison recall. It would add fuel to their anti-hunting vehicle. Either that or some poor chump out there was trying to make a buck on the litigious aspect of getting "tainted" meat from a food shelf.

how do you pinch your lead sinkers on for fishing? people have been biting down on splitshots for years and now the deer that we shoot is a problem. I dont get it. Keep shooting and keep eating in my opinion.

people get to worked up about stuff. They say not to eat the hearts out of deer because of wasting desease but will always do it. people need to relax a little. just like them trying to get rid of lead in fishing stuff just don't understand it. Will just keep doing what i always have done

I agree guys -- this is the info they are putting out, however. No wonder there are less and less hunters each year.

hisis a butchering problem not a lead bullet problem. If you butcher your own kills and retrieve any bullet which doesn't pass through, you should never have a problem. Tainted meat is butcher shop grind where they don't spend any time inspecting meat, trimming tallow or bloodshot, and grind multiple animals at a time.

When it first came up here in ND our GNF Commissioner was on the radio talking about it.He said there will be more studies done in the future, but he isn't going to stop eating it.In fact when he was on,he said he had just sent 20 lbs. of venison back to college with his son.....in other words don't worry about it.Especially if you butcher it yourself and control the bloodshot meat going into it.
