2008 NHL Playoffs! Round 1: Avalanche vs. Wild

That second article from 2003 by Mark Kiszla states how the Avs could never lose to the lowly Wild. How did that series end up again, oh yeah that's right we came back from a 3-1 defecit by winning 3 straight games, the last one in their building in OT. Yeah suck on that Kiszla! What a douche!

whats everyones thoughts on our "D" play so far this series?? I think everyone of our D-Men have played excellent, even Skoula (so far) I have been real impressed with their composure in our own end.

Sounds like Kiszla was a young lad back when Gretzky was racking up 200 points a season and checking was frowned upon. How do you beat skill players? You beat them with the body and make them pay in the corner. The Avalanche looked really tired in the OT especially with them only going with 2 lines in OT. I haven't even heard Paul Stastny name in the series yet. Forsberg has yet to play in the 2nd game of a back to back. I'm sure he will play tonight but we will see how he looks. Throw out the big 4 (Voros, Boogaard, Simon, and Fedoruk) again tonight and lay the wood to them and finish every check.

Why all the late games? A west coast TV thing? My elementary age kids would love to watch the games. They were suppose to go to bed early last night, for MCA testing today.

Because we are small market teams! We get the late game times! Kinda sucks not to be an east coast team.

Late night sinks. I'm in Miami all week on business and can't watch any of the three games this week. Of course I'd rather have it all buttoned up by the time I get home!

I think the Wild will take it in Regualtion, I think the wild will get 4 goals tonight and the avs will only muster up 2 goals with their old tired legs. I hope the wild really come out physcial!

So true-- Being a big Wild fan in Iowa is really tough. Only way I get any live info is via CCO'. NBC for the last 3-4 years has put hockey on the wk-ends--- never have I seen the Wild. All New YOrk-- and when they suck all Sidney Crosby and all EAST teams. LAst week was DET-NASH,,, why becasue it's the so called Hockeytown. Well, I got news for NBC, HOCKEYLAND is MINNESOTA and they may just have to show a game or two if MN advances past the the 1st round.

Love to see Nash beat DET. And if Cal beat SJ, we are the highest seed left in the WC.

Go Wild!!!!

NBC is so biased with hockey it makes ESPN with the Yanks and SOX look like UHF.

Wild win tonight they put a strangle hold on the series with it coming the X for game 5. I don't see it being very high scoring both goalies are playing great and we don't score for the first two periods we just out play them. I think wild will win 3-1 with a empty netter.

My guess-4-2 Wild. Physical play will open the ice up for the wild. If they get called for 8 penalties tonight I hope that they are worth it(Physical Play). Last nights calls were pretty weak in my opinion. Go Wild!!!!

this is sickening. They just need to let them throw some punches, just to get it over with.

No defensive and pretty weak goaltending in my opinion. Still seems to be some bad penalty calls. Go Wild!

Veilleux is a Pu$$Y, cheepshot on Stastny. Hit him from behind, left his feet, What a joke. Then he skates around like a wimp when Ian drops the gloves. Just cause you are lossing doesn't mean you have to play stupid cheep hockey. Hopefully the wild can remember how to play real hockey in game 5. Koivu needs more money. Fire Mr. 10 mil for not getting a point yet, and give Koivue a raise.

Hey, they got one on the road. They got their frustrations out tonight. Not too bad on the road in the playoffs.

If you look at the NHL games today, it was a day of defeat for the teams that should have won.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
