Hello,
I am going to bring someone out for the first time tommorow and I was just wondering if you think that the pond by the IGH courthouse would be a good place to bring them. Also where is the closest bait shop around there?
Thanks,
Alex

I don't know about that pond, but a few pages ago there is a very nice list of the bait shops in the metro. Hope that helps some.

The closest place that sells bait is the Ace Hardware on Cahill, and they have a decent selection.

As far as the pond goes: all thats in there are a bunch of Itty bitty walleyes. Its a DNR holding pond, so everyone goes ape catching 6 inch walleyes thinking theres bigger ones in there. There are some bigger sunnies in there; but with the amount of pressure that little pond gets, they are hard to come by. Just like the little pond by 52. Just say the word "walleye", even if they are 6-8" shrimps you have everyone and their dog going ape on the lake expecting to get a wall mounter out of it. I don't get it.

well I went there and at first there was only three people there. I caught about 7 sunnies and my buddy caught a couple. I was pleased because I always like to make sure people I bring out with me catch some fish. Only problem was that the fish were so small I could hardly even tell that they were down there. Overall though the pond is overrated but did talk to someone who caught a 15 inch eye.
talk to you all later,
Alex

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
