Anyone know why there isn't a designated site for these areas ?

I am new to the forum, perhaps I am just not looking in the right area.

There are so many lakes in the area (oak being a great one)

However there are many more. I find it hard to believe that more don't post. I think it should have a designated site for this area on it's own.

Someone else a few weeks back asked the same question,It was stated by a FM rep.that there wasnt enough traffic in that area to add another.I can see why only a few have questions and very few give advice for the area.So just look here, for the few,I try to answer some ques. But I havent fished the area for a few years, and now seldom get up there.I may be able to help with some advice,ya got a question?

It was me who got the email from the site saying there wasn't enough traffic to warrant which kills me when you look at some of the other sites like Ohio who has 6 and PA who has 9 threads. I really wish they would reconsider. If enough people emailed the owner(Rick) of the site that might help.

I guess you and I take it differently,I take it that few would use a special thread for the area, and it is east central,so why not post in east central under lake name.Did you see the post for Oak Lake a few days ago, about are there springs to beware of and fish spot,He got no replies,I had posted before no springs on the lake and my best spots,He could do a search I was waiting to see if anyone would reply.nada, there is one FMer who has a place there.but hes not around much either. My guess there is he also gets no replies. When I lived there in Duquette 11 miles away in Mooselake people didnt know of Duquette,Nickerson. Not many lakes and lots less people use the area,Oh when someone in Mooselake knew of Duquette they"d refer to it as "Oh out in the sticks"

There have been several people that posted they wish there was a separate thread for this area and I don't see what the big hassle is to put a new one up.

Neiko,

I think the reason it hasn't been given its own forum is like sparce said, the forum would have so little traffic, that the time and effort it would take would have little reward. I used to run around the Moose Lake area a bit but never really got a chance to fish up there. I know there are a lot of lakes up there, and I would love to have a chance to fish them. Probably some pretty productive waters if one does enough research.

Polar I would think thats another reason between Hinkley & Moose lake I dont think there are 20 lakes with public access.Heck I could say Hinkley to Duluth no more than 20.There's just a small pocket of lakes around Mooselake then a few by BigPine.Moosehead lake in Moose has some HUGE Smallies, the whole river system there does, their all connected to the Kettle then St.Croix

I just see a lot of lost people posting for info on lakes from Hinckley to Cloquet and they don't know where to post. East Central or Duluth forums.

Don't forget about all the trout streams and rivers in the area too. I've tried getting info on the kettle and moosehorn rivers as well as sturgeon lake in the past to no avail.

I'd love to hear input on places like the tamarac, grindstone, and nemadji rivers.

My experience with eyes in the whole area is hit and miss, very few eyes till first freeze, panfish and LOTS&LOTS of notherns, some really nice bass in most lakes there, but ya gotta fish em hard for any rewards,Id fish Oak before Sturgeon,or Moosehead.there's alot of private lakes that if ya get to know people you may get invited,Lake 11 & 12 Margret in Kerrick and a few more.

I have a place on Oak and there typically are very few reponses to requests for information. It is kind of surprising with the number of boats that come out of Hoffmans resort. Last summer the lake was low and very weedy making it tough to fish, the worst I have seen it in the 6 years I have been up there. There is a decent population of panfish, decent bass, and some nice size walleyes but they can be tough to find at times. I have a green lund 1700 fisherman so give a wave if you see me when the water softens.

Ron are you the guy with a place on the east side by the Islands? If not there is another member on Oak,I did live on the west side at one time.

Yes I am. Our place is in the bay behind the Island. There are 6 cabins and we are the second one in on the north side. We bought the place about 4 years ago and my brother-in-law have the next cabin to the south.

Ok, I'm going to take another shot at this subject.

The posts in the East Central Lakes Forum have a majority of the posts concerning lakes around the Chisago chain, Rush lake area, and the Big Marine, Carnelian areas. Mainly Anoka, Isanti, Chisago, and Washington counties. Or, "North East Metro Area Lakes"

The 'other' lakes are between the souther border of Pine and Kannebec Counties north through Carlton county.

Now, can any of the posters who fish the Chisago area tell us where East Central High School is located?

Yes, there really is an East Central High School, home of the Eagles right off of I-35 at Banning Junction in "NORTHERN" Pine County. A good name for the forum for this area would be "East Central Lakes".

Woodsman that is what it is??? So I guess your saying you want a specific area for the maybe 6 who post in Mooselake area. Now the post that starts this thread says what?? UMMM Just start your post holyoke, maybe say Cranberrylake, netlake or pickerellake. Those are the only lakes there and pickerel is the only fishable, unless ya go to Oak or Superior,You said it yourself the school named eastcentral is your area.So your posting in the eastcentral, just happens that area Holyoke has few lakes and the majority of the population is by the cities and the majority of the lakes happen to be there also.

Can you see the post for Mooselake is only 3-4 people

I will guarantee you there will be a lot more people then 3-4 that would post there. Don't forget you also have Sturgeon,Island,Sand,Moosehorn not to mention alot of other smaller ones. There are alot of people on these forums that have cabins on these so it wouldn't be just for the locals. It will definately get more action then some threads on here. I know if there was a business willing to sponser it it would be up in no time.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
