Stop and say Hi, if your in Cabela's

Recommended Posts

Deitz and myself will be at the Rogers Cabela's this weekend. If your in the area stop in and say hi. Both of us should be in and around the fishing department both Saturday and Sunday. I think Deitz will be there Friday evening also.

Decent deals... I know Cabelas has Door buster deals going both days... I think both Shimano(whom I work for) and Quantum(whom Wayne works for) has pretty nice mail in rebates... There are seminars both days, none by Wayne or I though.

Can you tell us what the rebates are going to be? I'd hate to drive out there for a 5 buck rebate when it will cost me 12 dollars in gas not counting lunch.

I see they have 25% off all Rapala cranks. I wonder if Rodgers has the Subwalk yet??? I was there a couple weeks ago and they didnt.

Shimano has the rebates posted right on the front page of there website, I didnt see anything on Quantums. Some of them Shimano rebates look like they are good deal. I might be buying my first Shimano in a long time this weekend!!!

I saw rebates for three reels (Curado, Citica, Cruxis) but I didn't see anything on their spinning reels or rods, am I missing it or is this just for these three reels?

Rebates are just for the baitcaster... Curado, Citica, Cruxis... and is listed on the shimano web page as you said... Cabelas usually has other instore sales as well.. but they dont tell me... must be secret. LOL

I totally understand the gas thing.. But if you do get there, please introduce yourself... Love to meet FM members!

OK, I'll introduce myself (again) but this time you have to remember me. grin.gif I was probably going to go there after the Musky expo anyways, providing I have any money left.

Not to be too off topic, but that is such a sweet deal on the Curados with the $50 rebate. How long is it good through, I don't think I can make it this weekend?

There's an Accurist and a $30 rebate that'll fit on my new jigging rod with my name on it. Might have to make the pilgrimage to Rogers this weekend.

I made it in and out of the store before 9 am. It was already starting to get busy. I could bet by 11 am or noon it was pretty nuts in there.

I was at the Owatonna store at 7:45am..with the kids for the free fishin pole offer. There was a nice line at that time. 9am and 2 full carts later, the parking lot was full.

I was at the Owatonna store this AM to get a Sierra fly rod. SOLD-OUT! The sellsmen shot me a deal on a Traditional II rod. I told him I would think about it and went to get some Cotton Cordell Super Spots. SOLD-OUT! So I went back and told him I would take the deal on the Traditional II rod in #7wt. None in stock!

40 miles each way and $10 off something I didn't go there to get.

If I told my wife that "Deitz made me spend the cash', she would say,"Yea,right." Pointing the finger at you DD would seem allright, but no dice at my house.Once again, asking for forgiveness is easier than asking for... grin.gif

Depends which day... Saturday I had a white shimano polo on.. Sunday I had a denim long sleeve shirt. I was at Rogers, and there were only 2 Shimano Dudes there. I forget what Steve had on, I think he was wearing black.

Deitz, I saw you, but I was in a rush and I had no extra money to spend, so I didn't need you coaxing me into some new Citicas or Calcuttas \:\)

Wayne, I think it may have been you who sold me the new Quantum PT and helped me find the rods they were giving away with the reel. I wasn't sure who was who there with all the people and I was in a hurry to get in and out of there quick, but looking at your avatar I might have been talking to you and didn't even realize it! If it was, thanks. I mentioned to you the other Quantum Accurist I have that I didn't like because of the drag, if you recall that. I can tell this one is going to be much better already after I rigged it up yesterday.

I looked all over for red suits walking around, figuring that would be the tell-tale sign of Deitz or Wayne. Didn't pan out as I had planned. grin.gif Option #2 was to walk around yelling Wayne!?....Deitz!?....Wayne!?...Deitz!? Thought better of option utilizing option #2 and just lurked/shopped instead. grin.gif

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
