I cant see Esko happening. Cabelas in my mind would like to have a site that is visible from 35. I dont think the Esko site is visible enough. Wouldnt be my 1st choice thats for sure.

I am telling ya Cotton \:D they could get the spot where the restaurant keeps going out of business.. They could get everyone heading north and us Rangers could hit it too.

"Plus I dont want Explorer going bankrupt or divorced because its so close to his place."

Northlander,

Firstoff, I just dont have the "shopping genes" in me enough (even at bait/tackle stores) to let that happen, but I might end up with a seasonal job there around Xmas time to help keep me out of trouble grin.gif

Second, the Esko site was leveled and 'dozed wide open, all the way from Hwy 61 to the right of way fences of I-35, there would be no missing the store if you were going by that site.

Besides camping stuff/tent sales/bargain cave, the other nice thing would be the "free ship to store" policy. Load, you could order all the bass stuff you wanted online and have it shipped to this store for pickup for free.

I guess we will all just have to wait and see, I'd still end up down at MG most of the time anyway.

The only thing that is strange, every Cabelas store that I have been to even the main store, has lots of support stores in the area. tons of fast food places motels gas stations you name it. Do not see that at the Esko site.but do see it at the I-35/Hayh 33 junction in Cloq.. All this might happen before I hit 70.>>>later the load

I live 15 min. from the Rodgers store and now fleet farm is coming to town. I will seldom have a reason to go to Cabelas.

My poor wallet has taken a beating.

the thing that can make or break a Cabelas is the buyers and the staff in the stores. If they have the right stuff at the right times and don't run out of it. Many times I have driven there only to be dissapointed because they were out of what I needed, this is just poor buying on their part. I will be chomp'in at the bit to hit the Fleet Farm cause they always have salmon gear and downrigger supplies too. And it's just more my kinda place.

FishGutz, I live in Monticello also. Are you saying Mills is coming to Monticello? If so where? I know they are putting on up in Lino Lakes but haven't heard of Mills.

The land is already purchased and the deal is done. It wll be out on the interstate near the high school. The sign will be on the north side of 94 but the store will be on the south side.

Rumor mill just told me today that if a Cabelas ever does come north it will be by the casino. They want that draw and the hotels, gas etc there. Plus I heard with the prison expanding in Moose Lake they wont touch the area now. No housing and no employee base.

Isnt it fun playing the guessing games?

By the casino....

Now that makes sense.

When all other logic fails, follow the money. ;\)

I heard southbound I-35, Exit 242. 3miles from the casino and quite good traffic flow as it is not far off MN.33.

Ya that would be a good spot. I wish I had some $ to buy up a bunch of land then sit on it and either sell it for twice what I paid for it or build a multi million $ bussiness on it.

Anyone want to be my backers? ;\)

i'm from the cities. hers a conversation i had with cabela's representative.i.e ... sales manager. hey you don't have any pearl white or clear powder paint. no sir we don't carry it. well can i special order it? well, no, we don't really special order low priced items like that, we normally only do the high end items. oh you mean like the lowrance i paid 700 bucks for two years ago. what kind was that? 339c igps. oh. yeah we would hav3e to order that in special. yeah i know you did. but that calcutta 250 te/dc i got from here was here that was 500 bucks. yeah we carry that. so thats 1200 bucks for 2 items not too mention the lures, and things i've bought here. gotta be going past 3000 easy. we appreciate that. will you order that paint for me? no sir i'm sorry we can't do that. (i'm laughing) does not seem you do appreciate me at all. sir we do it's just too low priced an item to order to make it feasable, you may be able to purchase it on the internet. (i'm laughing again). i could have purchased everything i bought here on the internet. yes you could have. so your not going to get this stuff for me? we can't. the place 5that makes it only sells to businesses, please man. i'm sorry sir. i won't be back. i'm sorry to hear that there's just nothing i can do. heard this same thing at gander, sportmans warehouse, mills fleet farm. smaller shops here in the cities area can't get it from the disributors. they don't carry it. what's happened to customer service in this country? three grand spent and at least 40 percent of that was profit. i just don't get it. well a recession should straighten 'em out. i did find the pearl white.

This is all interesting. I suggest you look into Billings, MT and Rapid City, SD. Cabelas started stores there and stopped construction, no money.

Sounds like a poorly timed expansion with a sagging economy.

Still when I go the the big "C" store I expect the basics for serious fisherman to be in place no matter what I'm persueing.

Lakers, perch what ever, I'm willing to pay a small premium on the basis that it will be there when I need it and not sold out due to poor buying and sales forcasting.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
