Just sitting here quietly with my new keyboard spill protection installed. Figure if I'm quiet enough, I'll hear that faint "more recent championships" cheer.

By the way, anyone can catch a big fish on a chartered trip with 2+ guides...kinda like shooting a 400" elk in a 40 acre enclosure...not impressed! Also, I'm not the one who started with the "measure a man by his catch" bit either, so don't try and turn the table!

Actually it's graphite and we towed it out to the barrel we were fishing from. Clearly you are the expert that you claim to be. I'm surprised you're even willing to admit that it is me in the picture, you don't know what I look like. It must have been past your little brother's bed time and you were all on your own with this one.

I think you've been reading with your Gopher goggles on again. You may think you didn't start anything, but you are definitely the cheapest man in hockey. Congrats you win the third man in award. PB was handling himself just fine and you just had to go all Blake Wheeler, threw out the horse-collar and started swinging. But hey like any good Gopher would claim it was the big bad Sioux fan who started it all and he should be banned from the board, what a cheap and dirty typist I am. You Wapiti are a hero to Choker fans everywhere.

Sioux and Wild victories today anyone? It should be interesting to see how the Wild fans treat Simon in his first home game.

I think the Sioux should win, maybe 3-2 or 4-3. It will be interesting what kind of edge Simon can bring to the ice for the Wild. They should win, but the probably won't win it till overtime or the shootout. I say Wild 3-2 in the SO.

Shade over 14" and released.....already have this guy on the wall.

17".... #3.11......and if I had your Photo editing skills Yak it would look much bigger/better...Go WILD.... grin.gif

I'm certain he didn't need any help from you for his defense.

PB dropped the gloves and swung away with a big ol' slab, and what a fine slab it was! You must not have any nice fish pictures to post. Hmmm, how are we going to measure up Wapiti? He's got nothing to show!

My parents?!? Wow, Wapiti! Once again with the original comeback, did you buy the little bro a gallon of ice cream to wake up this early and help you out or were you two watching cartoons together?

Here's a question for all. Will the Sioux have the opportunity to beat the Gophers again or will the Gophers be a no show this year in St. Paul?

GO MAVERICKS!! They're like the Vikings of college hockey, the Sioux may have more wins, championships, etc... but winning or losing, always faithful \:\)

That's a refreshing viewpoint.

Look Wapiti it is possible to root for a team even when they aren't battling for the conference title. It can even be done without ragging on every other team in the league.

And from what I saw of the Sioux-Mavericks series the Mavs are at least willing to try and shove the Sioux's hard hitting style of play back down the Sioux's throat and not complain about it.

I guess the Gophers prefer the more uppity whine and cheese approach. Oh well, it's just easier to get under the skin of a Choker fan that way.

In case you're struggling with that statement I'm calling Choker fans The World's Dumbest Fans! (Wapiti wants us to keep it simple for him to understand.)

Sioux win 2-1 in OT, Duluth went 231 scoreless minutes and they can not finish in the top 5.

OK then... no flaming angry Rodent trolls responding to another Fighting Sioux Sweep?

What are the predictions for next week? If the Sioux sweep again and CC and DU split the Sioux would share the cup. I think it is definitely plausible.

It should be interesting to see how this weekend goes. Word is both Trupp and Genoway were injured last weekend up at UMD.

Trupp injured his knee of Friday and Genoway hurt an arm or a shoulder in the first period on Saturday. They had him on camera briefly in the third, his arm was in a sling. Hopefully the injuries aren't too serious.

They'll find ways to win without trupp and genoway as they did on Sunday night in Duluth. I'm thinking split this weekend against St.Cloud.

I think they'll sweep and then lose one in the first round of the WCHA playoffs. They still have a lot to play for(MacNaughton Cup) and I hope that the OT with Duluth gave them a little motivational scare. I think there is a high probability of a split with CC and DU, it being a home and home series and all. But St. Cloud has a lot riding on this weekend too. No matter what it should be an awesome series.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
