Take a break from the hard water fishing for a moment and help me think about fishing Mille Lacs for Northerns in early spring.

Last May I drove way up into Manitoba to fish NP as they entered the warm, shallow bays. Got me thinking about fishing NP on Mille Lacs around the time of opener. I always key on walleye and have not paid much attention to pursuit of NP on Mille Lacs at the opener or soon after. What are they usually doing that time of year?
