Is anyone going to try this weekend anywhere?

Thinking of heading over there in that area, just wondering if there is any info.

Thanks

I'm on call so I can't stray too far from home. With that said, I'm thinking about trying Bloody for some crappies.

I honestly don't know. Last weekend I was on URL. The weekend before that was the Sarah Saturday get together. The weekend before that was the Lake Francis get together. Sooooooooo, I haven't been around much.

I've heard walleyes are biting on the north side of Shetek. However, not a day goes by that I don't hear walleyes are biting on the north side of Shetek so take it for what it's worth. I'm only guessing there are about a zillion fish houses out there.

Yeah I have fished Shetek alot this winter the north end the south end and loon. All the spots I have fished have produced the same for the most part, with Loon probably the best so far.

I will give bloody a try though, Is everyone driving on bloody?

Dude, I've learned there's a rope tied to the end of my otter. That particular rope loops real well around the trailer hitch.

Saturday I think I'm on bloody. Sunday I have no clue.

I wasn't serious, I was trying to stay vertical. long story.

You guys going where I think you're going? I have a old childhood friend of mine coming down that weekend for fishing. However, it's perm house cuz wife is coming with. If it's where I thing you are going it's a looooooong drive with my not road worthy fish house.

Iffin it's somewhere closer to my place, shetek, sarah, bloody, fox, grahm, lime........count me in. If it's where we went that one place that one time, TO's gonna have to live without Klan Boilerguy. Sorry TO, I know you'll miss me. Get over it dude. grin.gif

Too bad you're on call this weekend there are rumors floating around that the gills are on bite! and I may just have to go alone.

Can we make that the 2nd? I've got a super bowl party/poker tournament that starts @ 1 in Sioux Falls?

While we're commenting avatars Muc why are you wearing shorts in January? don't you know its cold outside?

Chad,

Let me know if this is an option:

Come down early Saturday, February 2, fish, stay over at your place (or somewhere) and then fish a half-day on Sunday, February 3 and then I'll head home.

Thanks.

Let me check the boss's schedule, but sounds ok with me. I also have to check on my new fish house done date, I may need to pick it up on the weekend if Friday doesn't work for them. Regardless, we can make it work I am sure.

Well, you let me know what works and we'll go from there. I just need to be back to Le Sueur by 4:00 pm on that Sunday, so I thought it'd be easiest to come down and fish Saturday and at least the morning on Sunday.

Chris, once again you did a ton better than I did.

Besides having stuff to do around the house, having the flu, and just life..I still managed to get out a bit today. I went to Lime Lake right by my place. A couple perch and a couple crappie, that's it.

You da man.

Too bad you were on call this weekend. Today would have been a good learning day. They were on fire first thing this morning. I had six of those in the first 20 minutes. and missed four others not too long after that. I am really liking not having anything to keep me off the ice this year thats for sure.

We really have to get together at least one or two or ten more times this winter, on the ice.

Perchpounder, Picked up about 6 nice craps in about 2hrs with quite a few misses and some that were released. was there at sunrise and you were right the earlier the better. Saw some huge gills but they wouldn't bite on anything. Cant wait to go again. i think i am going to try the north bay too. Walleyes still biting on river.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
