dodge guy, when was the last time you fished Round? I can give you 8 houses that have more than struggled in the last week.

Had a buddy get three off of Round Saturday evening. He had the Marcum and was jigging about an inch off the bottom. He could see the fish come in and raised his jig about six inches and could get them to hit. The other guys with him caught nothing. They can be had but it's got a lot tougher.

Not sure, can't figure this one out, if it's weather, or what. From 15 below to 35 in 2 days now back to strong winds and snow today.... your guess is as good as mine. I am home with bronchitis right now, gotta love getting sick spending so much time in a hospital! but I have a couple guys out there pretty contstant I will get the low down and let you know.

I can see both the weather and just the flat out fishing pressure having it's effect on Round. Let's face it, it's a fairly amazing fishery, especially for it's location. (southern MN)

It's been getting fished hard, and producing, for well over 2 years now. It's bound to slow down eventually.

Sick is a drag. I was fairly ill last weekend. Between work and shots of the cruddy bug I still managed to get some ice time.

you are absolutley correct. this is the 3rd year of hard pressure she took. not to mention the open water pressure too, you should see that mudhole on opener!!!!

She has been fun, but like you said the fun can end too. who knows?

The sick thing sucks for sure. I though I skated by it when the rest of the family was sick, but NOPE, whammmo, my throat glands feel like they are the same size as my waist!!!!!!!!!! yikes!

Yea thats what I figured... I was planning on heading out to Round, but people say it's slowed way down. So I really don't know if its worth 2 hrs.

My daughter is sick too. My wife's turn today and perhaps mine tomorrow if she doesn't re-direct "the storm". Seems to be a lot of illness floating around...

It's not that I don't want to make the trek but I want to be sure it won't be frustrating for everyone involved.

Heard from a fishing friend that was on East Grahm and caught several small walleyes nothing worth keeping. It was on 01-26-2008 in the evening.

HOLY COW we were on the west side of Lake Shetek the other day and I have never seen better fishing...By the end of the day we had our limit of Crappie and Walleye for two guys. Our biggest crappie was a 15 and our walleye was a 20. I strongly suggest hitting that spot up.

Hi outdoorkid. Welcome to FM!!!

I haven't fished Shetek in a while but I've heard through the grape vine the crappie bite was on.

Were you on the north side of the lake? Seems that's where I've heard of most of the action.

We were like Northwest side in between a little bit. The walleye was better than crappie. Small Glow lures with really small minnows were workin well. We had an absolutly huge walleye come right up to the fish cam

Outdoor kid- Just got back from shetek this morning. We fished the south lake just southeast of the aerators where the open water is. Biggest walleye was a 17 in otherwise most of them were 12 to 14. Had the first fish at about 2:00 then the bite was very off and on catching one here one there. The last fish was caught at about 10 then the whole rest of the night and morning not even a bite. Overall was pretty slow but did keep a few.

Hey icenads...Sounds like we might have been neighbors. I've been fishing the same area for quite a while. I didnt stay over night lastnight, but went out early this morning & ended up with a few decent crappies...had to sort through quite a few small ones. A friend of mine was farther to the north & ended up with a nice 26" eye. I havent caught one walleye yet where I'm at...I guess thats just the way the pickle squirts sometimes.

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
