You mean "The Black Pool". We used to catch crappies in the there in the spring and summer. Also catch bass along the edges.

BNS, I've had guys telling me there all over the lake. BJ's report says 16" but I don't know where they're taking the measurments from and how long ago that was. I'd bet now there is an additional inch or two out there.

BJ's has a road to the narrows and a road to the 50ft hole and further east. I was out a couple days this past week and there were several trucks driving around and there was around 15-17 inches of ice where I drilled. I managed a few sunnies and marked a few walleyes but fishing was slowwwwwwwww!

Is it just me or has fishing been slow this year. A few others i have talked to thought the same thing have to work very very hard to find the fish and catch them this year.

I had my best luck around the 24-30 range but i was fishing later in the year so might have to wait a little longer before the good ones bite.

thanks guys for the information

I have never been on it in the winter time, so i was curios to find out. ill let the guy that i work with know so he can get out there.

Also, are the roads like flagged or something?

BJ's doesen't flag the road but it's pretty hard to miss. Now that there is ice, i've been diving off of the public access. There is very little snow on the lake now and you can drive around the lake pretty easy, I haven't needed the 4 wheel drive yet. There are a couple spots to watch out for like the river from augusta and the narrow end of bungalo island.

Antler, thanks for the info on the public access. Were you using the one to the north or south. Which one has the river that is right by it. Thanks for the info.

The south access has the culvert nearby with the river running through it by the access/landing.A guy dumped his truck in there last year right out in front of the culvert/bridge, so stay away from it.Go straight out to the lake at the south access, and do not go to the right, you should be ok.

Thanks rock. I'm not sure if I'm gonna go out today or tomorrow. Are people catching fish in the crowds or should I get away and try to find them? Thanks for the quick response.

I haven't been out on Clearwater yet this year.I do remember the guy with the truck incident, and the last time I was there(last year,or two years back) the culvert had open water in front of it.Sorry, I don't have any recent fishing advice to give.

Thats all right. It looks like I'm gonna be going out tomorrow. Maybe give Pulaski a try today or a smaller lake and try to fid some craps.

The access I go from is by lake augusta, across from the bar. You will see where everybody has been driving on at, just make sure you don't go right after getting on to the lake. Follow the tracks either to the left or straight out onto the lake toward the island (don't drive through the cattails). Fishing can be ok in the crowds but as of lately there hasn't been much action.

I'm heading out that direction in a little bit to brave the cold and hope something is willing to bite.

Wish me luck, I might need it!!

Hey antler, how did you end up this evening? I'm pumped for tomorrow. I hope I can get something to bite.

Fishing continues to be a little slow but the bite seems to be picking up a little, We ended up with a few eater sunnies for the 2 of us.

The ice ranges from 16-20"+. I found a spot that I had the auger pressed almost to the ice. Peopel are driving all over. Just becareful of the thin ice inbetween east and west at the narrows.
