Is there ever a calm day on Tonka?

I haven't been on Tonka since the hard season. Heck ya there's topwater bite. Somedays it's calm out. Like today for example, but there are so many coves and channels and places to get outa the wind.

Stick to one bay/section until you know it, then move on to something else. I've fished that lake for years and still haven't been everywhere.

Looks like this season I'm going to be a land lover, so I don't think I will get out there. Kinda bummed.

I've had some good luck in Smiths and Brown's bays earlier in the year. After that you might want to try pitchin power bait into the holes in the milfoil beds near Brackett's Point. I've never been much of a top water guy. I usually use Slug-O's or fat raps for big mouths. Have caught several bass on that lake in th 5+ category.

Ditto what hammerhandle said. You will get buzzed by a lot of idiots. Other than that I think Tonka is a world class bass fishery. The milfoil "problem" has obviously helped that. Last year I solely targeted the docks, shorelines and channels of Grays Bay. Caught hundreds of bass with some really nice ones (Probably upwards of 5-6 lbs.) This year I have only targeted North Arm. Some big bass in there too. Only caught a few small ones however. Keep getting snapped off on my ultralight as I have been targeting crappies. Hope this helps. Good fishing to all.

the boat channels that are scattered thoughout the system, usually provide decent morning topwater action. all aorund one of the best bass lakes in the country, as long as you can get past the pleasure boat traffic

Great bass fishery, but be prepared to run into a bunch of morons. You'll probably get cut off a few times as well. I recomend going out there during the day on weekdays if possible, or very early on the weekends.
