Has anyone hit Turtle (Shoreview) lately? I'm taking a newer bass fisherman out this weekend and want to take him someplace where he can try a variety of techniques and still have a decent chance at hooking something.

Any other lake ideas are appreciated as well!

Thanks!

I was out on Turtle Saturday morning from 9-2 with two friends. We totaled about 25 fish with about 18 of them being bass. Every thing from 10 inches up to 18 1/2. Almost all were hit in the northwest corner of the lake. If they don't hit in shallow head out to the middle of that bay. White and Yellow spinner baits were the key, even out in the deeper parts. I wish I had stayed there all day, I went over to Lake Johanna during the evening and only got one in about two hours!!!!! I guess the Muskie have ate everything else in that lake.

I was out on opener for a few 3 hours and had 15 bass, 2 northern and a bluegill. Fish the rock bar buoys right in front of the acess in the morning. You can throw a small topwater over the top for some quick action and then go back through with some plastic. Make long cast so not to spook them. Then try the NW corner and the weed edges on the entire north shore

Was out last night from about 6 til 9. Fly Fished the entire time and caught about 20 bass and missed a lot. They were being hesitant at striking the fly, lots of follows. We were using foam poppers and a chartruse and white deciever. Good luck it was my first time out on turtle, my buddy has fished the lake for many years. We saw and released a few targeted large bluegills. Just for some added fun. Although it was hard to put down the bass rod.

Thanks for the posts! I love Turtle bassin' & was trying to think of somewhere to take the wife for an almost sure fish. Turtle is it.

Strike, I received a fly rod as a present a few years ago & never learned how to use it. I'm going to Canada with a buddy who fly fishes over the 4th of July and am bringing the fly to learn how to use it. Can't wait. I've heard it's deadly on panfish & bass. It's certainly fun to watch.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
