I'm pretty lonely. I'm sure not getting any company from the fish!

I moved the house last night but this spot was worse than the last one. I went real close to a spot that was a producer of sunnies, crappies and small eyes last year, but when the small perch left the vex went blank, nothing there the rest of the night.

I think I was a little too shallow. I'm gonna move it again tonight and see what happens.

Saloon, what side of the lake are you on? I would meet up with you sometime, I fish by myself quite a bit. I will be by myself tonight probably and I will be out on sat with a co-worker and his son and on sun I hope to bring my wife and son out, if I can find some fish before then.

Ice conditions - are people driving trucks everywhere throughout the lake after this cold snap? Looking to get out this weekend and hoping to try Wac.

This is the worst fishing I have seen on Wac. in my 20 yrs of fishing this lake. One observation I would like to make is that my neighbor and I both have cameras down during light hrs. It seems abouth every 1 -1.5 hrs one large muskie comes rolling thru. I don't know if this is the same fish returning, but it does not matter if I have been in 28' or in at 9' I am seeing these things all over the place. The interesting thing is that we have not seen a single northern. I personally think there are too [PoorWordUsage] many in there. They won't hit a sucker or shinner either. I haven't heard how they taste but will let you know when I finally catch one. (relax, and get a sense of humor) grin.gif

Fellas someone is stealing propane tanks off houses on Waconia. I had a forty lb tank taken off my 20 foot house yesterday in broad day light. Problem is how would you ever know, cause it would look like a guy changing tanks when he is taking them.. Totally sucks. My house is parked in Wageners bay and is a tandem green and tan aluminum five star shack. Everyone needs to look out for each other and each others stuff. Obviosouly the guys taking this stuff are not sportsman. Whomever it is decided he also needed to take a leak right out side the house while he was stealing my tank. This is the second tank stolen this year. Needless to say they are locked up now. Good luck to all.

My house is not the pink one. Kind of a diarhea color actually. Heading out tonight to try and find some Eyes. I'll post again on Sunday report my findings.

Good luck all

I think I might have been right in-between you and the pink one but I moved it last night. Planning to move it again tonight.

I have a house on Wageners - and am going to move it tomorrow. I'm in 11' on Pillsbury Reef, and haven't done anything the past couple of days. This is the first year I've had a house out there. I'd like to try and put it on a spot where I can get my kids some nice sunny action. Any suggestions on where I can find some decent size sunfish or crappies in Wageners Bay?

I'm going to keep trying Wageners Bay / Pillsbury Reef. What depth do you recommend for panfish this time of year? I want to find a spot where I can take my kids and make sure they have some action. Thanks for your help!

The most action I could find in wagners was in the deep hole straight out from the point. I was in about 21 FOW.

Wasn't exactly fast and furious when I was out there and you had to do a lot of finessing to catch them, so kids might have a hard time.

good luck

Have you ever thought about trying north of pillsbury usually anywhere from pillsbury north up towards nelsons can be good all along there for panfish. You can fish anywhere from 9-13ft that is usually where you will find the better luck because of how the weed structure and weed lines are going to end up at. Find some good tall milfoil if possible and set up on the edge or in a pocket and stay away from the crowds. The best thing is if you have a camera and drill a lot of holes to find the fish and the area.

Ice-King - thanks for the tip. I took your adive today and had some good luck on the panfish. I was in about 10' just north and west of the pillsbury reef area. Nothin to brag about but some steady action kept the kids busy.

I've been out three times. Have always seemed to get into some fish, but I have yet to get any size. Plenty of walleye in the 12to14 inch range.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
