Lane, Dan And Dino,

I have to fly out to Montana Thurs and will be coming back on Monday, anytime after that will work for me.

Now on to the important stuff!

The walleyes are there, you just need to find a spot away from everybody and then tweak your spot a little. We have had 60-75 walleyes a night on Waconia. Most were under the slot. but there were a couple over 22"

Last year was my best walleye year on Waconia, ever. I have been fishing Waconia for about 10 years. Last year I stayed away from the crowds, and when somebody put up next to me I moved. I stayed away from the well traveled roads to keep the noise down. People I know that fish out there now are having success with walleyes.

You guys are all crazy! The fish are bitting and they are bitting fast and furious! I've never caught so many 6-8" perch in my life. =P

I've been out about 6 times. I dont have a flasher or a gas auger. I haven't had any luck other than small perch. If someone could point me in the right direction (PM/email/thisthread) to a good place for walleye that is accessable via foot... I would greatly appreciate it. Not your 'prized' spot, but a good starting direction would be super. It's my first year out ice fishing and it's looking dismal \:\(

We generally park at the marina.

lets see i am at the marina and you can not see my house so good luck finding where i caught the fish.. it has slowed down a little but i believe it depends on the day..that is why they call it fihing and not getting. and yes it seems like more and more fishhouses are coming unto the lake. i know of people catching crappies but it is in wierd places. not the typical areas that the should be..lets do this lets put all the houses in lines about 100' apart and then no 1 area will be over crowded. the presure will be reduced in areas and everyone will catch the same type and amount of fish......if someone does find where i am fishing then please stop over and i will be glad to introduce myself. but you need to figure out how i am fishing on your own...remember u need to be on the ice to catch fish. i have plenty of hours on the lake to catch the fish i do. and would love to help a fellow FM'er out sometimes...a great salesman will give u a key but you need to figure out how to use it. either do it yourself or call the salesman...........................blah blah blah........... time to go to bed ..have another.. beer that is

head to in-towne marina and they will help point you in the right direction. Everyone has to start somewhere, find a quit spotand set up away from everyone, thats the best tip I can give you. The eyes I have heard caught have come late at night, everyone I know that has caught fish have been in sleepers so plan on staying or starting late. Good luck!!!

found a couple of random crappies last night. 1 lb 4 oz 13 1/2" incher came through the hole...had 1 to many beers i think..the reels would rattle except for when i got to them....just think about the words that were flying then when i was half in the tank...those fish would not let me sleep.

Out yesterday, trying the 10th different spot this year. Best spot so far. Perch & sunfish until dark. Then the walleyes moved in for about a half hour. Then the crappies moved in.

Just curious, did you find any Walleyes in the slot? Do you mind telling an approximate depth?

I have a spot in mind to move to for this weekend and maybe try for a walleye or 2, but I seem to never catch any walleyes over 12"

I've been sitting off Pillsbury for a few weeks. Crappies are ok after dark, lots of small ones w/ some keepers mixed in, no walleyes. Perch and bluegills are active all day if you like catching 3-4 inchers.

if anyone could point me to a walleye out there i would appreciate it...

PS. I am the big plywood box

I put the big house out along with a buddies and we ended up catching over 60 walleyes in first 10 days combined. About two dozen of these 60 fish were over twenty inches and were RELEASED back into the lake. The biggest fish we ended up with was a 27 incher. One thing that we noticed was alot of the smaller fish that we had to release were around 15 1/2 to 15 3/4. Cant complain about this season.

Now realizing with all the houses and the pressure the fishing has slowed dowm but still picking up a eyes or two a night.

seems like everyone hasnt been catching anything but cold except babe winkelman here. maybe you should email him and get some tips.

No walleyes over 16", yet. I was in 16' to 17' of water, looking for the crappies.

Now where I was sitting on Thursday night (looking for the crappeis again), I hooked a 13" eye early, but then they shut down. I was using crappie minnows & waxies, and they weren't taking. They seemed interested enough to come and look at it. They were down there all night, just not biting. I think the bigger ones were down there too. Maybe if I had fatheads. This spot, I was all alone, not another shack around for at least a quarter of a mile, in 20' of water.

I have been out in this same basic area as Twins 57 fan and could give almost the exact same report.

I have found that I have only caught walleye on waconia when there is no one else around me, or at least very few. I have done fine in the past for sunnies and crappies in the community spots but I personally have never caught a Walleye while fishing them.

Twins 57 fan, you're not in the pink plywood box are you?

Did you at least find some crappies?

Not on Thursday night. I think they were eyes only. At least they didn't act like crappies on the vex.

I did on Monday night, but after I ran out of crappie minnows, they didn't seem interested in the waxies I had to offer. I can't wait to get back to this spot. Maybe tonight, for sure this weekend.

Thats funny how it works sometimes, but I can't seem to get a crappie to bite on a minnow but I have caught a quite a few of them on waxworms.

I am going out on thurs night and probably move the house to a different spot. Then I will probably be out everyday through sunday.

About half the walleyes I have caught this year have been in the 16 1/2"-19" range. The other half were fish over 20" and fish from 15"- 15 7/8". The smallest walleye I caught this year was last night at 14 3/4".

Kodiak where are the pictures, pictures for proof not pictures to find spot? cool.gif I bet those 5 pounders tasted good!!!

Every time I've had a fish house on Minnetonka, it's been vandalized. You're a better man than me - that's one plus about Waconia...at least so far - less riff raff. Just my opinion. I wish you continued success with the walts.

Quick aren't I? Well I wish you good luck none the less and hopefully the punks leave your house alone.

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
