On opener i was fishing eagle lake in Wright county, and some guy was following me and i got pissed. he was trolling about 20 feet away from me. HE asked me if i lived on the lake and i said no i have a cabin on it, so the guy said then move the fu$% out of my way cause i do. that just pissed me off more and i said a couple 4 letter words towards him.he said i told you and will be sorry.he followed me around the lake for about 15 mins more then he started to troll faster and ran right into me and stayed next to me rubbing against my boat, so i lifted the 90 Johnson out of the water and started her up and gave it some juice, a water fall of water filled his boat. then i left and he started to chase me across the lake so i wiped it around and stoped to see what he was going to do he said watch out. i never seen him afterwards.

Unbelievable!! Road-rage is spreading to the lake??

Been there done that Ive already had a jetski soak me and my boys on Tonka cause I told them not to do 50 in a no wake zone... I called the WP, they got there about 5 minutes after they loaded and left...

Sometimes with wipes I just pick up the cell phone and act like Im calling the WP and they usually cuss at me and then leave...

Boats have numbers just like car license plates.
Take the number, call it in. If we don't take the time and let them go, they'll keep doing it.
Multiple infractions in one ticket get spendy. No Wake Zone, minimum distance, and more than likely speed if the WP can get them on radar.

Lake Rage. That's insane. That little bit of hydro-buggery on his part could have seriously hurt somebody. One more reason to river fish.

Holy carp!! What a bummer! He actualy hit your boat? That's some nerve.

Isn't there a law to be 150' away from any boat? I know that doesn't seem to apply on Tonka.

bigfishin,
My hats off to you, after all that, he got close enough to you for you to climb in his boat and beat him to within an inch of his life and you didn't. grin.gif You definately showed more restraint than I could have. That guy sounds like a major league A$$ Hole to me. I hope you got enough water in his boat that it almost sunk instead of just getting him a little wet. Geez, I wasn't even there and still makes want to choke that F'r. If you see him out there again, don't back off so much as an inch.

Alright, I know how the whole road/lake rage thing goes......

What part of the conversation did you leave out.

Let me guess......he was trolling too close and you said something or gestured something before any of the conversation above.

I'm no psychologist, but the information above does not give a motive for his actions, but even with a motive he shouldn't have bumped you.

What you're telling us above is that you were minding your own business and this guy was trolling behind you and for no reason he asks you if you live on the lake.....then after you kindly respond, he tells you to get the *&*& out of the way and rams you.

It could of happened that way but I doubt it. My bad boat and road incidents all involve either stupid, sarcastic, or inconsiderate words or actions by both parties involved.

Waste,

You're giving criminals way too much credits here. If someone was intentionally boat tail-gating anyone of us, we would all say a thing or two to the idiot. However, giving the idiot a piece of our mind should never justify being rammed.

Bigfishin,

If it was me, I would have let my prop do a number on his hull. Props are cheap.

Hu'h
My boat is armed with two large weapons, they are called oars. Anybody gets close enough to me will be sorry. I will jump in their boat and we can duke it out like some crazy buccaneers or something. I'm thinking of gettin a paint ball gun for them pesky waterskiers/jetskiers, give them alittle touch-up if they enter in my 150' bubble. What do you think the waterpatrol would say about that?

Christ we live in the land of 10,000 lakes, why does it seem we are all trying to battle it out for a set 15-20 of them. I can't wait for my Canada trip coming up, I'm not going to know how to control myself.

BigFish,

You should have beat the living heck outta him, tied his anchor rope around his neck and dropped er in! grin.gif

Just like today I came off the lake and some guy and his wife were launching their pontoon...no biggie. So I park my boat at the other dock and he shoves his pontoon in the water and then proceeds to pull the trailer outta the water and BLOCKS the other ramp! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Some people just need to be shot! smile.gif

Maybe I need a new line of work...Long Range Sniper for hire smile.gif

You guys need a new hobby, cause fishing doesn't seem to be helping you with your relaxation therapy.

How about turn the other cheek!

There is simply no justification for retaliation other than your own inflated egos.

For your information, attacking someone with a paintball gun would be prosecuted as felony assault and the justification you'd use in court of "he was drunk and deserved it" would certainly solidify the prosecutors case.

Relax......it's just fishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the guys drunk then call the cops. If he is following you and threatening you then call the cops. Don't be one of these ego maniacs that gets shot cause his ego wouldn't let him walk away from a confrontation.......

I never called you a liar. Those were your words.

I simply hinted at the fact that you may have left out the initial words and attitude you displayed.

Your quick tempered and derrogatory remarks about my comment only solidify my impression of your demeanor in the situation.

I will fully apologize for offending you with my remarks. I enjoy fishing and do it with a smile on my face. I have lost my temper on the water a few times and see where you're coming from, but you gotta ask yourself if a confrontation is worth the possible consequences of your stalking drunk pulling his sidearm after you give him hell instead of just practicing restraint and letting the authorities handle it.

I don't know if you are serious, but this sure gave me a laugh.

This isn't my forum to moderate so instead of shutting this thread down I'll politely and with genuine respect for everyone please ask that we ....

a) please get the thread back on track - i.e., how to handle aggressive behavior in ourselves and others on the water

and

B) please stop the name calling and personal attacks

bigfishin' - please don't go lookin' for a fight. My Mom told me once - Never set a place for trouble at your table - it'll show up when it's hungry.

I don't want to give people the wrong impression about me and my attitude. Especially since I will be fishing LETS metro. (I missed the first event). I was just having a bad day when I posted. I was only joking about my weekend plans. I just tried to inject some humorous mental images. I really enjoy fishing and I do find it relaxing 99% of the time. I look forward to meeting all of the other teams and having some fun this summer.

I agree this thread has got of track abit, I usually log on to this site to get fishing reports and talk to you fellow anglers about my favorite pasttime, fishing. But when I see a thread like this I just gotta read it 'cause I want to see if anyone is talking about the same idiots that I see almost anytime I'm on the water. There are definatly a whole bunch of knuckle-heads out there and there ain't much we can do about it personally except to sink to the level of these morons and retaliate. And I ain't preaching here cause I have been in more than my share of road-rage/boat-rage incidents. No, I wasn't completely serious when I was talking about being a modern day pirate but there have been times when I have been inches from tightening my wood leg, adjusting my eye patch and preparing to "swab the deck" with some scurvy-dogs face. I'm not promoting it but it is a fact. From all these encounter I have really never changed anything or anybody, if some dude wants to be a dickhead he is most likely to be just that. I have come to a realization that the reason I fish is to get away from it all and to R-E-L-A-X. It is very hard to do this on some area lakes though, with all these people entering into my bubble. By the way, my bubble is alot bigger than the 150' that the law says. So instead of getting all bent out of shape over someone elses ignorance or disregard for others I simply take myself out of the situation. I try to get my fishing in during the week or in the early late hours of the day. This way fishing can be how it is intended to be RELAXING. Don't get me wrong though, if you are feeling froggie enough to hit my boat, there will be some swash-buckling going on. Now lets all try to give the other guy his space, don't insult him, and try to keep the stupid ones from reproducing.

https://www.timberjay.com/stories/moccasin-point-upgrade-has-longtime-users-concerned,22802   Moccasin Point upgrade has longtime users concerned DNR hopes to get major remake of key access underway later this year Posted Thursday, March 20, 2025 10:36 am   Marshall Helmberger LAKE VERMILION— With funding finally in place, the Department of Natural Resources is planning to move forward with an estimated $2-plus million renovation of the Moccasin Point landing, and users of the site say they’re concerned about the changes. The landing has been heavily used for decades by anglers, Boundary Waters visitors, residents of nearby islands and other remote-access properties on Lake Vermilion and, perhaps most critically, by emergency responders for everything from fire to medical response. Moccasin Point has also been a protected harbor for private barges loading and unloading as they service the many water-access properties in the area. Sarah Schmidt, who spends summers with her husband Jake at their cabin on nearby Pine Island, said there’s a lot at stake for people who depend on the landing. “A lot of people have designed their dream home around having access to that landing,” she said. “People need propane, they need lumber, and if they need to install a septic system, they need lots of gravel,” she said. For the many hundreds of island or other water-access property owners on the lake, all of that material comes by barge. Moccasin Point is particularly well suited for such use, since it is arguably the most protected harbor on Lake Vermilion, with islands and mainland protecting it from wind from just about any direction. It’s also centrally located on the sprawling lake and close to concentrations of island homes and cabins. Scott Kelling, northeast regional manager for DNR Parks and Trails, said the plans for the reconstruction of the landing are still being finalized, but insisted they will take into account the unique mix of recreational and commercial use of the landing, including use by all three of the barging companies that service customers on the lake. According to Kelling, the remake of the landing will include removal of the old pier and the reconstruction of a new one in nearly the same location. “The new pier will serve the same function,” said Kelling, and will include an additional ramp that will be dedicated for barge loading and off-loading. Kelling said an engineer’s inspection of the existing pier determined it was near the end of its useful life, although Schmidt said she thinks that opinion reflects the DNR’s desire to remove the structure rather than its actual condition. Kelling acknowledges that it’s not the only reason for replacing the structure. “With our redesign it’s just not in the right location,” he said. Adequate parking is another major concern of longtime users of Moccasin Point. Tim Logan, whose family has owned island property near the landing since the 1950s, said plans the DNR had shared a few years ago seemed to show less parking than is typically used at the site. Schmidt notes that during high-traffic weekends, the parking area is frequently full and overflow parking can extend for hundreds of feet along Moccasin Point Rd. She said she counted 163 vehicles parked at the landing at one point last Memorial Day weekend and said there are routinely 90-100 vehicles during the summer season. Many of the regular users of the landing, particularly those on island properties, use the site for long-term parking of their vehicles for days, weeks, or months at a time. That’s unusual at public landings, which are typically limited to day use. Kelling said the DNR is making an exception to that rule for Moccasin Point, given the many varied uses of the unique property. “Overnight parking will be allowed,” he said. Kelling said the current plan will allow parking for a bit over 100 vehicles, which is more than some original plans for the site. “We’re doing everything we can to maximize the parking there, at some considerable expense,” he said. Longstanding issues Kelling said the DNR’s plan for reconstruction is motivated by a desire to “manage the site more responsibly on a number of fronts.” The DNR acquired the site in 2008 and had planned to undertake reconstruction of the landing back in 2013 but lacked the funds at the time to accomplish the work. The funding was approved in 2023 and the DNR has been working on design of the project ever since. According to Kelling, the site has operated essentially as a “free-for-all” for years, with uses and resource impacts that aren’t typically permitted at DNR-managed access points. “There are currently a number of transgressions out there,” said Kelling, including long-term storage of personal property and building materials. He said the site, which slopes toward the lake, also contributes large amounts of sediment into Vermilion during heavy rainfall. “We need to better manage the stormwater,” said Kelling. “Currently, a lot of sediment and other things end up in the lake when it rains.” Schmidt questions whether the change will be an improvement, since the DNR’s reconstruction of the site will convert the existing grassy hillside that currently serves as the site’s parking lot into a paved parking area. Kelling said the parking area will be leveled before being paved and that stormwater will be directed into one of two planned stormwater ponds in order to contain sediment. Schmidt claims the ponds will become a mosquito breeding ground. Kelling said he expects the final design will be completed soon and he is expecting to hold an open house in early summer so interested users can see what’s planned for the site. He expects actual construction to begin sometime in October if all goes as planned. That initial work will include blasting of some underlying bedrock in order to level the site. But most of the work will take place in 2026, he said, and during that period, it may be difficult to maintain public use of the site, although he said use of the site by barges should still be possible, with potentially some minor delays. But he said other users of the site may want to explore other access options for that summer. Kelling said he hopes to have more information on that at the open house later this year. “A goal of the open house is to really share the timeline and alternatives for users,” he said. “They might need to park somewhere else in 2026.”

i wanna change mine to the 29th of april...........i've been seeing ice reports to much up that way. 🙄

Agreed, but I had a bit of a technicality and had to change.   You!  🤣
    • CigarGuy
I think once you guess your date, that should be it. If you can change right up to their date, that kind of takes the fun out of it.....in my humble opinion! Let vote on it!😀

      OK April 25TH
    • JerkinLips
As long as we haven't reached the date you originally chose, you can change your guess to any open date.  At least those are the rules for my "big dollar" raffle board.   Always fun to keep guessing the ice-out date on Vermilion as the melting season progresses.  This is our first year living on a lake (150 acre shallow lake between Duluth and Ely) so I am enjoying watching the melting process on our lake.   Board is updated below.  Dates are slowly disappearing but many middle dates are still available.

Gonna revive an old topic after seeing an announcement from MN DNR about improvements/upgrades to Moccasin Point. Read 2+ million dollars invested but didn't see any detail plans. Anyone have the inside scoop?

I hear yea, I've got way to much shot shells laying around. I've been known to shoot some old lead duck loads at grouse!  🤭   To bad there's no good old Sportsman swaps like Twig use to have. Great place to unload sporting goods "overstock" 🤗

I took about 1.5 cases and came back with about 1 case.  I wanted to burn up some cheap shells I bought for a North Dakota trip several years ago.  After the first day of ripping through as many of those as I could, I switched over to my good stuff, shot less, and got more birds.   So I still have 6-7 boxes of shells I don’t even want to have around anymore.  I don’t think I even got through a second box of good shells.   The cheap shells are Estate BB; the good ones for me are Black Cloud 2’s for geese.  BC 4s for ducks.
    • leech~~
How many shells did you bring? How many did you come home with?
