Whaletail/Minnewashta

I had the day off today and took my father out for an all day tour of two of my favorite pike waters. Got on the water early and put about 12 hours on the water. Got some very nice pike on Whaletail but the real kicker was that when were about to come off the water we got 17 crappie in the small boat launch channel all in the 11-13" range they were slabs. Have not got them 13" since a couple years back in Ely. We Let them go. It was then off to Minnewashta. Caught many pike but the largest was only 3 lbs. We then targeted panfish and easily got 100 sunfish with many being nice big 9-10" bulls. We also got 6 crappies with the largest being 11". Dad kept a few for a nice meal. All in all the weather was fantastic and the fishing was simply amazing.

Yep, if anybody wants to catch a bunch of eater northerns, Minnewashta is the place. And by keeping the smaller ones it'll help the fishery.

Mr.P, you got any interest in getting out fishin' some time this weekend? I'm pretty much open and plan to soak a bobber somewhere for at least a little while.

Mykal- Just got your message about the Twins tickets. If you went sounds like a great game 18-3 I think was the final.

G-man- I was off today as well and did some landscaping around the house and other projects. Saturday morning I am going to power wash the deck and then spray with a stain. Should be done by 10 or so and then was thinking of heading out for an afternoon/evening run as Kristen works 3-11 so my day is free..I was thinking of Minnewashta again. I know of many good pike holes where a sucker on a bobber or whistler jig seems to work and I am sure the crappie/sunnie hole I fished on Thursday will produce again. I was very very impressed with the size of the panfish from Thursday. Call me in the morning and let me know what your day looks like.

Mr Pike 1, I wasn't sure you'd be up for a Saturday trip. I too had chores but snuck up to Mille for a few hours. Got into some including a nice 25 incher. sounds like slip bobbers are the ticket on the South end and rigs on the North.

Mykal, good to hear you got a couple of eyes. I assume you hit the Indian point area. I went back to Minnewashta for an afternoon run of 3:30-9:00. We got some pike, some nice sunfish, and a few 8-9" crappies later.
