Fished from noon till dark on the north end. Fished from 6-18 fow. Boy did it suck. Plenty of 3 inch bluegills and 6 inch crappies though. Hopefully the nicer gills arent all fished out. This lake sure gets hammered in the winter. Also I heard that the city sewage backs up into the lake. Yuck. I think i will just catch and realease in this lake. Oh I almost forgot I did land a huge pike on 2lb line. It was pushing 15 lbs. Really thick and fat. Took about 15-20 minutes to land. It hit a no 16 diamond jig and a red spike crazy.gif

Also fished Lily near Elysian in the morning. Didnt mark a single fish.

I saw a few out. I think they are pushing it. Id just show up at the access and (Contact Us Please) the situation from there. Im sure there will be plenty of wheelers out. And i'd bet someone would help pull it, esp for a small fee smirk.gif

With one 8" exception, I measured 10+/- 1", on Sunday, didn't measure on Monday night when I pulled mine out. I have been watching the various reports and it seems those on the north end are reporting around 10, those on the middle to south are reporting around 12.

For me, it's a little thin to be driving out yet but then I am concervative. If I drop one through, not only do I have to get it back out, I have to call a diving friend to come be safety diver while I go under and hook my own truck up. I know my diving friends will never let me live that one down.

Sorry, I have to work Saturday night but will probally be out Sunday afternoon / night. Call me if you don't find anyone (before 2:00 pm) as the ATV is still on the trailer and not that big of deal to drag with when it's already loaded.

I was out on north side today and I could'nt keep the quarter size sunnies off my bait anyone else having that problem ? Out of about 13 fish 2 were keepers. I even tried offering larger jigs no help they still went after it. There is alot of houses on that lake and I know people have to be catching some keepers just wondering what I'm doing wrong lol.

Put the house out today on Clear. Beleive it or not we have 16" under the house. I thought I was seeing things when I measured But nope it is 16". Marked a ton of fish but I am sure they are those little minnie gills. Will keep everyone updated as now I will be out as much as possible. our house is set in 14-15' of water.

To update my last post. I went out today for a few hours and dropped in some tip-ups. Well 16" under the house 13-14" 20feet away from the house? Fishing was slow at best but I have heard of reports of some nice fish comming as well. Of course that is just rumor and I have not heard anything first hand.

BB,

Sure hope to get into a few eyes out there this year. I am on the east side out from Maple Wood in about 14-15' of water. Have not caught anything of size as far as panfish go but hope to find some soon. As far as the snow it varies. 2"-5" is what I have seen.

I was out Friday night and we took one eye and many crappies in the 8-10" range. Sunday night was slower but still took several in the 8-10" range. Both nights the action started about 5:30 and died off about 8:30.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
