What is the rule on lakes where they have horsepower limitations?

For example, say a small 100 acre lake has a 10hp max restriction. What can one do if they had a 50hp on their boat?

Can they simply not fire up the engine, go minimum wake, go a speed they believe is roughly "10hp" worth, etc.?

Thanks for the input.

I'm pretty sure you can just leave it on the boat, you just cant use it. There are some lakes by where I live where there you cant use any gas motors, but people leave the motors on their boats and just use their trolling motors.

You cant even turn it on. PERIOD. But you can leave the motor up and use the trolling motor.

I've seen some folks use the motor "a little bit", and they would get a ticket if caught... also some use the main for loading the boat... but NO means NO, if you cant crank it up dont use it...

I know that you can use any size boat you can get in the water as long as you dont start the main motor...

yeah. That's why I like lakes like Tanners; it's a small lake that has a 10mph Surface ordiance on it (which is pretty well enforced.. the sheriff's boat is out there ALL the time; and generally it's just me and him on the lake) It cuts down rec boating on that lake like 90% and there are no skiers. I can get in on HOLLIDAYS and be like one of maybe three craft on the lake; the other two being residents. It's a tough lake to fish; but it's likely where I'm going for opener as I'll be able to get on with ease.
