Does anyone know if there is a decent spring crappie bite on Turtle lake in shoreview? and where that might be? I've never heard much about that lake in the spring.

I was thinking the area out in front of the launch, probably the south bay you refer to, south around the bull rush islands would be good. Seems like that would warm up fastest. The problem on that lake is that there isn't much to confine the warm water. The other problem might be how to get away from all the half pound bass. They can actually be a nuisance when you're after crappies.

No crappies there guys, go away. LOL

My buddy lives on the lake and we usually do pretty good, but he does not want me giving exact spots.

I will say that a few of us harvested 15 lbs of crappies or so.

I was out in the wind on Sunday and caught some nice bass while trying to find the crappies. Water temp is right at 56 degrees in the small bay on south end. Not sure where they would be spawning. Let me know if you have any ideas.

i would say look on the north shore, in the northwest corner. one, it is the north side and will be warmer; two, there are patches of cabbage that grow in later in the year and; three, there is a relatively decent drop off on the north end into deeper water compared to the southern end where it is mostly a flat. there is also a small point with a decent drop on teh northwest side, might want to check that out too.

i am only speaking from experience of being out on the lake, but those are the areas i would choose first since everyone hits the areas you are talking.

Turtle has white crappies. Right about now the north east side in 12 feet. Great crappie and bass lake. Crappies have ran up to and over a pound at times.

I have had some luck on the rock bar near the launch. But once again, there are plenty of bass to weed through as the same time

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
