Shore fishing - Minnetonka?

Hi everybody, complete newbie to these forums.

As the subject suggests, I'm looking for good shore fishing spots in the metro. Crappie and good sized bluegills are my main target, but I'd like to go after bass and maybe even walleyes after their respective openers.

Tried a few places this year. Checked out Phalen first about 3 weeks ago. Could only find fish in part of the channel, and they were tiny. Hit Sarah about 2 weeks ago, wading near the boat launch (Pretty much our favorite spot, but only on weekdays to avoid the heavy boat traffic), but not a single fish. Went to the channel on the south side of Eagle that same day and caught fish, but again they were tiny.

I'm planning on going once this week (and probably once a week or so for the next couple months at least), and was thinking about trying Independence, but was reading good things here about Minnetonka. Is there any decent shore fishing there? Any other ideas? I'm pretty open to anything within 45 minutes of Roseville.

Fish the local rivers. Fantastic shore fishing and if you wade, you can go prety much anywhere. Close to Roseville (I grew up there), try the Mississippi north of the 694 bridge. St Croix in Stillwater off the wall, Hudson at the end of the point.

I would give south center a try in the chisago area. The last few weekends I have been wader fishing there for crappies and catching some. Also you can try accross the lift bridge in stillwater by the rock pile. Hope this helps and good luck

Porkwich, do you live on the west or east side of the metro? But I will agree with every esle the St. Croix or any of the rivers wil be a good bet.

STILLNOFISH: I used to fish North Center with my Grandpa in his boat when I was young, but I've never been to South Center. Do you shore fish near the boat launch or somewhere else?

Mr Special: I live in Roseville, but usually have to pick up my friend in Columbia Heights before fishing.

I like to fish the point looking out to pancake island. When you are driving towards south center you will see to your right a peninsula with homes, going out to the middle of the lake. I beleive there is a liquor store and restraunt on the left, you will take a right and drive through the neighborhood for a short distance. at the end of the road is a state park were you will be able to park your car. It will be apparent to you were the point is. fish both sides of the point. Also give the stillwater lift bridge a try on the wisconsin side. I have caught several walleye and crappie towards the evening in this area. Good Luck
