I was wondering if anyone has been at Medecine here lately and how far along the crappie spawn is. I am going to be back home from school in a week and want to know if anyone has been getting any there here lately.><>

I too am interested in hearing about Medicine these days. I've never really fished it during open water season. I've heard that there are some nice Bass out there though.

Medicine has HUGE pike too! I had one on during the ice season a couple years ago. It took my shinner and kept going and eventually broke my line.
Crappies run small form what I've seen.

The backwaters should be holding the sunnies and crappies about now. You won't find anything big, but the numbers can be pretty good.

Don't be surprised if you hook up with a nice bass or dogfish back there. And bring some rubber boots. It's marshy back there.

I fished medicine last saturday.. going for the sunnies cought a lot and kept some big ones. i was fishing back there in that bay where the french park water channel entrance thing is. cought a few nice bass too.. (ON ACCIDENT!!!!) i was fishing in about 10-12 feet of water and saw lots of people where i was too.. so there must be some good sunnies back there or crappies.. was using worms and clip bobber set at 6-7 feet.. hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips!!! I usually do really good there but since this year has been kinda goofy in the weather department I was just wondering if they have been up there. It sounds like I might be able to hit the end of it when I get home. Thanks again!!! ><>deadeye

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
