just wondering if any FMer's are bothering with drop-shotting?? i've been trying it for the last 2 yrs with varied succcess. was out on minnetonka yesterday, and that was all i could catch anything on. everyone i talked to asked how the walleyes were biting. i couldn't lie. i caught two walleyes (very small). but i also mixed in several pike and many bass. one bonus bass that measured 21". anyone else trying this technique??

Yup - and it works too...Carolina and Lindy rigs have also done the trick!

I think every bass fisherman has tried it at least one time or another. But I've used it with pretty good success and on multiple species.

I used a drop shot rig for the first time in the last Metro LETS event on Clearwater. We were fishing along a reed covered island where the water went from 2' to 35' in literally about 15 feet. We were sitting in about 15-18 ft of water with my brother casting senkos and other lures to the edge of the reeds, and I was bouncing that drop shot below us as we went. Worked really well, and I can say for sure that I'll use it again. We musta caught our limit in about 15 min.

Lunker how long ago were you on clearwater. I will be out there next week. Sounds like I should try drop-shotting. LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING IT!

Haven't done it yet but have been reading a lot about it and am wanting to give it a shot. (Pun intended)

I use this technique all the time for panfish from late spring thru the summer months. It really works well. I've never tried it for bass though......

After a trip last year to California's Clear Lake I have used dropshotting almost exclusively to target big bass whenever conditions get tough. I also learned that if the fish are REALLY inactive, rig the worm wacky style. Cast it to where you've got bass before, or where you think they should be. Fish real slow - like 3-4 minutes before you reel and move the bait.

Use a bigger bait when fishing this way to keep the sunnies away. My favorite plastics have been a 6" watermelon Senko for wacky rigging, or a 6" RoboWorm rigged normally. The RoboWorm color I've been using with the most success is called "Folkestad's Special".

Additionally, I've had limited success using a big (3/4 oz.) drop shot weight to punch through mid-depth milfoil.

Biggest dropshot bass in MN this year was a 21" out of Crooked lake.

Pharcta2, now you've got me itchin' to get out to Crooked Lake again and try this technique out. What time of day did you catch that 21" bass? What did you use? I've gotta get me one like that!

That fish came out about 9:00 am back in early June. I had a 1/2 day vacation to burn, and went out on a Thursday morning. I was past the fishing dock in 4-5 FOW with LOTS f weeds.

Good luck!

Can somebody explain the "drop shot" technique?

How about "wacky rigging?"

juan grande, i could tell you here, but you're gonna better understand it by going to the bass pro shops site and find it there. shouldn't be too hard. they've got info on wacky-worming also. good luck. let me know if you need more help. as some of have shared, it is very effective. i nabbed a 21" (my buddy says 21 1/2") LG on tonka last weed when nothing else worked. good luck. later.

derek, we were fishing Clearwater on the 25th I believe. My best advice is get there pretty early, cause we started at 7am, and most of our bass came in the first hour or so, although we caught a lot later but more time in between. We did manage to catch probably over 20 bass , but size was lacking. Did best early against that island(find an edge with quick drop to deeper water) catching some fish on dark senkos and dark plastics both shallow and deep(I was drop shotting with a jacks worm), as well as cathcing some fish off the weedlines with spinner baits and buzzbaits. I also managed a very large dogfish on a spinner wink.gif. Keep moving but fish slowly and thouroughly. Good luck
