Tight Budget + X-mas + Saving $ to build a new fishouse + Stupid, Stupid cars = A whole bunch of words I can't type on here.

Can anyone guess whose car had the a/c bearing lock up, the starter burn out, and the serpentine belt break this week?

NorthernDave......We may have to go back to the drawing board on my new shack to see where I can save some ching.

Sounds like someone I know confused.gif. New transfer case before heading to lake of the woods. Then there was the set of 8 injectors before my spring trip to low last year. So I am almost scared to drive my truck up there grin.gif.

you do realize we won't be building that in my shop right?

that's a build on fishing site biodegradable unit there.

Walleyejon, I sure would like to help you out in your endevor. If you were to sit inside of your Otter, we would gladly cover it with Great Stuff foam. Sawsall wielding Northerndave could cut you an excape hole & you would have your permanent igloo house.

a chainsaw is really more my style, but what ever.

also household appliances come in very large boxes..... maybe go trolling behind the closest appliance store for a new fish house? they throw them away all the time.

ever see some of the jackpine "triple wides" on the way to the lake?

some duct tape & a dozen refrigerator boxes & we'd be stylin!!

seriously!! we can cut windows with a steak knife, we can put a great big chunk of used carpet down on the ice for a floor & build up from there with refrigerator boxes & duct tape.

this is gonna be the best fish house ever!!!!

Twisted,

Since you know I have an Otter, I must assume that you also know me, and since you are offering to work with ND, I must also assume you are, as your name implies very Twisted. That being said, I must point out the glaring omission in your "plan". Nowhere do you mention what kind or how much of a cache of survival bait and beverages you will supply me with while I'm waiting for you two redneck engineers to finish the job.

I would actually expect you to supply the so called "cache" or as I was imagining a large box of adult beverages as a gesture of good will to ensure your timely exit from the walleyedome.

walleye dome, that sounds nice.

I have an old 4 person dome tent at home that i could donate, let's just foam spray that.

like a big foam egg shell.

we could paint it like a big easter egg.

How about that car of yours Walleyejon? Could we just have that foamed. Sounds like it's not going to be much good for transportation anymore.

There. Two birds with one stone!

Any other issues that you need taken care of?

who's gonna tell his wife that the car is a fish house now?

we'll have to tear the dash out so we have room to jig up front. 2 holes in each floor board area?

you got XM in that thing?

we don't care about the AC, does the heater still work?

I call shotgun!!

Thanks for all the support....I need a shotgun...although that spray foaming the tent idea has some merit. You guys stand inside and hold the tarp out, and I'll run the gun. Then, purchasing those adult beverages would be my pleasure. I'll have as many as you'ld like waiting for you if.....I mean when you get back outside.

Dr. Evil: Can I have a hug?

walleyejon: No.

Dr. Evil: Give me a hug.

walleyejon: No way.

Dr. Evil: Come on. Let's go. Pronto.

walleyejon: What are you doing?

Dr. Evil: I'm with it. I'm hip. Well, don't look at me like I'm friggin' Frankenstein! Come here and give Dr. Evil a hug.

walleyejon: Get away from me, you lazy-eyed psycho!

[Dr. Evil runs after him with his arms out]

Dr. Evil: Hug, hug, hug.

You got a deal walleye jon, but it had better be the cheapest, nastiest beer money can buy, and no cold stuff either or the deal is off!!

I agree 100%. I'm easy to negotiate with but I won't budge an inch if these expectations aren't met.

All righty then you sons-of-low-down-dirty-beer-drinkers. I'll have some hidden-in-a-teenager's-closet-for-monthes aged Blatz shipped up from my old stompin' grounds in Wisconny, and we'll get this party started.

A spray foamed igloo style house is the way to go! grin.gif

I can fish in mine at -30 with a buddy heater on low, and be in a t-shirt. Wind can be howling outside, and can't even hear it.

Hope to get it on the ice tomorrow.

OH NO! We don't want this thing too warm. I just had a vision af Walleyejon stripped down to his skivvies in his super-warm walleye dome. shocked.gif It'll take more than a box of the Blatz to stomach that.

But all kidding aside, a 16' diameter foam dome would be a neat way to go. Two halves that bolt together at the lake so it could be hauled without overwidth permits. I'll drink, I mean think on that tonight & submit any ideas that make it through the alcohol cleansing to Walleyejon tomorrow.

Well this is my first time posting, I don't know where yous guys get all the money for that cardboard. We gotta use that on the house windows during the chillin' time. I do have a suggestion though, I have discarded Spam tins. Ya fill them with snow and stack 'em up. If you don't clean them before you fill them, the left over jelly helps them stick together. Let me know what you think.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
    • smurfy
got mine done........for the cabin.....ready for summer festivities!!!!!!   there was still frost in the ground...........but good gawd are the lakes low!!!!!
    • CigarGuy
      Just 1, 50" muskie🫣
    • SkunkedAgain
How many walleye were on the stringer on their way out???
