OK - We've just got blasted with a bunch of snow and it looks as though we may finally have a good old fashioned MN winter.

Maybe you are looking for a brief escape? My wife and I went to Maui this past October. I put together a website of our trip. You'll see a number of references to Northern MN and the BWCAW.

Now I'm not a writer or a photographer and have never done a web site before. So....grab your favorite Don Ho CD, mix up a Mai Tai and come along for the ride. Please take a minute and sign the guest book and include where you are from.

PS: I'm not making any money off this site - I hope it doesnt break any rules to post it here. If anyone here is ever planning a trip to Maui, I'll be happy to help you out with any questions you might have.

Aloha!

Leaky, Holly Hana you did a super job documenting your vacation. I started to read and knew I didn't have enough time to finish so I want to get back to it later.

It sure would help anyone planning a trip to Hawaii to take a look. Take Care.

Went there before too, recognized a few of the same places. I could go to Hawaii every year I love it there so much. We went on a submarine and I went charter fishing too. Had a blast.

Hey Leaky,

Nice website! I like the video of you running into Steven Tyler! HaHaHa! Anyways, never been to Maui, but I have been to Kauai and the Big Island twice. Lots to see and do over there. I wish I was there right now...I love going over there! I am kinda hoping to go back next winter...we will see. My wife and I really liked Kauai alot- you should go there sometime.

Later,

Justin

Really cool Leaky!

I was there for my first time in July for someones wedding. We didn't get the time to explore the place like you did so I appreciate seeing some of the other places we though about going to. We were based out of Kaanapali Shores. Nice hotel but not like where you stayed.

We just seemed to be there at the wrong time. Bad surf, drought and a couple wildfires on the hills. Sure looks better in your production! Nice work!

Oh, and yeah, your last piece of advice: Upgrade to 1st class if you can for that flight! crazy.gif We didn't and halfway across the Pacific, I would have paid the pilot directly to get a couple seats but they were all full.

Justin--sounds like you're gettin that Jelly of the Month Club membership for your Christmas bonus, huh? grin.gif

Yo Wanderer!!!

Christmas Bonus??? What's that??? Those cheap (Contact Us Please) won't even buy me a turkey!!!! I was promised a bonus earlier this year...didn't get it, of course mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif. Well, they probably figured that I forgot about it, but I have the memory of an elephant!!! I don't forget!!

Well, no time to think about work...There is going to be some fishy punishment dealt pretty quick, man!

Later,

Justin

Thanks guys. It was quite the adventure. I really liked the Hana side of the Island, which would lead me to believe Kauai would be awesome.

Casey - that Big Beach Vid is my favorite. I must have watched that thing 20 times now. That little girl running to the water and back just kills me. The Steven Tyler thing was pretty cool as well.

If you haven't watched the Paia vid, the chick that talks about pizza sauce being made with "red dirt from the earth" was also classic Paia.

Hi Picks

Comcast went and changed up the format on the website and I can't figure out how to get the links to work again. If you want to do some research prior to going, check out Trip Advisor dot com. They have Hawaii (Maui) forums that were a great help prior to us going.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
