Packers Loss

Well the Pack lost last night, but at least they made it a game, and Rodgers looked good. They really needed Woodson, and KGB. Don't know if it would have changed the outcome, but it definately would have helped.

I mean this as a compliment, that was a moral victory for the Packers. Rodgers looked pretty darn good and Grant had another nice game. Looks like the future is bright for this young team.

Now for the Vikings fan cheap shot, looks like the Pack gets another ball to bounce their way as T.O. tips up a ball right to Al Harris in the end zone. That's like 4-5 of those balls in the last month. If the Pack has Favre and that kind of luck they might make some noise come playoff time smile.gif

J/K. Green Bay should be able to take care of business this last month and wrap up home field for their first playoff game.

well, a month ago i didn't think the pokes were for real.

ok, they are the best team in the nfc. the packers had a real shot in this game and rodgers played really well in pre-season as well. i think the pack could rest favre if necessary next week and still get the win.

Teh pack are a good team, don't get me wrong. But they should not have been 11-1 going into that game. They simply are not that good. I would say right now they should be 9-4.

week 1 IF...they eagle could catch a punt...Pack looses

1st game against vikes...If the Refs call the catch (that was then fumbled and was in route to a Vikes DEF TD) correctly like they did the next week in the pack loss to the bears....the Pack would have lost that game.

I'm not really big on the coulda shoulda woulda stuff, but those are 2 examples of #1 a routine play that should have been made, and #2 a horrible call that changed the game. The fact is if Green Bay fans are going to enter the playoffs thinking they are as good as say the colts who have a similar record, then they are delusional.

The pack reminds me of the 2001 Vikes who had a nice team and made it to the NFC title game but in the end it didn't mean SQUATTTT.

How about the non-call when Harris took the ball out of Owens hands and they called it forward progress?? That was a blown call if I ever saw one. A pass interferance call that was called in the 4th, what a joke of a call that was.

And they were 10-1 going into last night, and to say they should be 9-4, I am still laughing my arse off at that comment.

It was a tough loss to watch as it seemed the Packer Defense couldn't do a thing. That 3rd and 19 brought back memories of the 3rd and 24 against the Eagles in the playoffs. Despite all that went wrong we were in the game and I think had chances to pull out a win. Hopefully we get to meet again in the playoffs and we will be at full strength on defense and Favre will get his head out of his &%#@#) and quit throwing the ball deep to a guy who is double covered.

On the TO note, as good of a receiver he is he seemed to drop a lot of balls. I bet there was a good handful of balls that he should have caught and just flat out dropped or bobbled. And that's not counting the Al Harris take away that was blown.

Listen to you packer fans whine about bad ref calls, the packers get 99% of the questionable calls in their favor. The refs finally make one against your favor and you whine about it! Its not fun when you get bad calls against your team on a close game is it? grin.gif

Sorry I had to coment, since there were so many packer fans comenting when the Vikings lost the first game against the packers.

For the record I did not put any of the blame for the Packer loss on the refs. In fact, I didn't even mention them. Calls get missed in all games for both sides. They were definately not the reason the Packers lost that game.

It is so true that the team you cheer for never gets any calls and the teams you hate always do!

Favre did have an unbelievable ability to find deep double coverage last night. Couple questionable calls? Probably but Dallas was the better team last night.

I agree the Cowboy's were the better team last night. They protection Romo had all night was unreal and Owens always found a way to get open. There were a few bad call's but what can you do.

You have to admit Rodger's looked pretty good in replacing Favre, he has a very bright future as a QB.

Rogers did look good last night. What do you guys think? Quarterback controversy? grin.gif

If anything, it should give the Pack peace of mind that if Favre goes down they are still in capable hands. On the flip side, it sure takes away from the argument as Favre for MVP. I thought he should have it as they would be right there with the Vikes if it weren't for Farve, but this may have shown that Favre success is largely due to the team and the teams success isn't neccessarily due to solely to #4.

You know what is really annoying me, how loose the term "shut down corner" gets used by some people. Listening too my sirius radio all week i listened too packer fans talk about their shut down corner in Al Harris. Are you kidding me? I'm in a pick em' fantasy football league and my buddy picked GB for 5 points. I said dude, i sat in the metrodome in September and watched the viking recievers run free all over, but unfortunately Kelly Holcomb was at QB. I told him what do you think TO and company will do with Romo throwing the ball. I told him too change his pick but he stuck with it. I guess its all in what you consider a shut down CB too be, but Al Harris sure as heck isnt one. He looked lost last night. Hes darn good, but nothing near shut down. I'll tell you another thing, if the pack make the superbowl, i wouldnt want too go there with Atari Bigby at safety against the pats or colts. He is absolutely rotten. Why did the pack insist on him covering Witten? He couldnt hang at all. Turned out too be a halfway decent game though. It would have been much worse for the cowboys superbowl chances too have lost that game than the packers losing.

True Harris had a bad game last night, but they game planned well to take away his strength, which is jamming people at the line of scrimmage and being physical off the line. Dallas put TO in motion a lot and that takes away the ability to do what Harris excels at as it is a lot different than having a guy lined up straight across from you.

As for Bigby, he has been downright horrible the past few weeks after starting off the season relatively good. He is turning into the new version of Ahmad Carroll for the Packers with all his dumb penalties. He was pretty much playing be default last night as we had 2 secondary players out of the game and one other out of his league. J. Bush who started in place of Woodson was just downright terrible last night in the first half which meant T. Williams had to move to play corner in the second half. Bigby is getting ripped pretty hard on a Packer board I frequent.

Should be a real interesting play-offs. I'm no packer fan, but it sounds like they deviated from their typical game plan early on a dug a hole. After the 2nd quarter, I have to say they played Dallas pretty even up. If these two teams meet again, it might go either way. No one else in the NFC is going to compete.

Well thats what i'm saying Down too Earth. A true shut down corner can take whatever is thrown at him. A true shutdown corner doesnt have too get a jam at the line of scrimmage too be effective. Don't think that teams in the future will not try and exploit what was shown last night. Thats a fairly large weakness is what you are saying. Woodson is in the same mold. Good at the point of contact. If you beat him off the line of scrimmage then you got him.

You may laugh, but you have no argument to counter my reasons. Maybe that paint thinner is starting to catch up with you. If your going to say anything make some type of valid point.

I think Seattle has decent chance at giving the Boys' a run for their $$. See last year.

Hasselback is just the time consuming QB that can keep Romo off the field.

you said they shouldn't be 11-1 and should be 9-4. Well they were 10-1 going into the game vs 11-1 and you said they should be 9-4?? Your number's dont add up when they only played 11 games going into Thursday night's game. They beat some very good teams at the begining of the year and the Packers are better than most people think. All I know is the NFC will be playing for 2nd place in the SB because I doubt any team from the NFC can beat the Patriots.

I realize that now. My mistake, they should be 8-4, that even worse than I thought. I would agree they are the 2nd best eam in the NFC, but not by a wide margin, and they are not that close to the #1 team either. Yes, its cute that they will win the division and make the playoff, but in the end it just means they will get worse draft picks.

Speaking of which, Vikes need to start losing. grin.gif

I agree that their not close to the #1 team but they did play Dallas tough with Rodgers at QB. The Vikes are now in the thick of things and your saying they have to start losing?? From the looks of it they will sneak in the playoff's because I don't see Arizona wining to much the rest of the year and everyone else is playing pretty crappy ball right now. And yes it does suck knowing you make the playoff's and in all reality you will get a low draft pick because of that, but atleast you made it to the post season.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
