JP and I would like to put another gathering together like we did last year on Height of Land. We'd like to figure out a date where most can make it, and we can drive vehicles out. I would say some time in January so cast your vote; pick a Saturday or Sunday on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th weekend in January. My vote's for Saturday the 10th.

Peter, I think you mean Saturday January 12. My vote would be for Sat. January 19. Jan 12 is the winter stream trout opener in lakes. If we had to do it that weekend, I would prefer Sunday Jan 13.

I think it is a good idea as well --

I would also vote for the weekend of Jan. 12.

I think Sunday might be better as well, but either way for Da Hitman.

Some guys (pick me) work Saturdays so a Sunday would be better as long as I get my back fixed. Blew that out a couple of weeks ago and it's still tender.

10th, 12th, 13th, 19th, whatever Dead laugh.gif. As long as we're fishing, the dog don't care what day it is. tongue.gif I'm open so we'll just see how the democracy plays out.

I'll attempt to make it whenever you pick it but saterday doesn't work for me since my brother gets married on friday so i dont think making it there for me would work so sunday is better. But whatever you guys decide i'll do my best to make it.

I would prefer the 20th, a sunday. On the 12,13 I have to go babysit a bunch of youg, hot models for a fashion show I am providing sound and light support for. (not that bringing a bunch of young hotties out into the cold for a runway show on H-O-L would not be fun and entertaining but I think the bridal gowns and dressed would not be the best thing on the ice cool.gif

Hey Dead, come on an help. We need all the help we can get when doing a $20,000 fashion show bid. We need Spot-light operators, set up and tear down crew (2-3 full days of work) must have knowledge of strong back and weak mind. KNowing XLR and DMX helps. cool.gifcool.gif

I have a weak back and strong mind... oh well crazy.gif

plus, I don't think my leash is that long. Mrs. DEADhead kind of frowns on fraternizing with models and the like. tongue.gif

Dead I was looking back at some pictures of the last few years I have taken during this annual show we do 2x in January, one if Fargo, one in Bismark, however there are no picutres I dare post here for fear of being banned from FM for life for creating viagra poster children. tongue.gif , naw not that bad but most are of specific lights or stage sections, rather boring to the public if you don't do that type of thing normally. I'll have to take some better shots this year and post some for all to see some of my work, and why i hate my job so much.

That being said I want to go ice fishing. I missed last years get together. I had a chance to meet up with F-dog over at H-0-L, and John and I hit little DL for some early season pannies and pike, but a big gathering sounds fun.

yeah Paul, you definitely need to make this year's outing.

BTW, if you need some one to review those other pictures you have to determine if they are suitable for posting here, send them my way grin.gif

If you want to drive to Fargo... I've got a chiropractor buddy that can fix it. He's the best. I've had back problems for years. Been to many back crackers... but this chiro is different. He fixes it.

He practices whats called Ghonstead Chiropractic... only a few in the area that practice it.

It's good stuff.

I'll give you contact info if you want!

Thanks for the offer. I have a pretty good guy here in DL. He's done his part, now it's up to me to rehab the muscles around the area. Getting better every day.

Hey Paul,

About that show in Jan. in Fargo... If you seriously could use some help I'd definately be up for it(set up...whatever). I'm a college student in fargo and could always use a few bucks. I also have no Mrs. Livintofish to answer too, and like models, grin.gif Thanks.

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.

    • CigarGuy
