Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has been out to Prior Lake recently. I went out last weekend and did okay. Basically wondering on the ice and where to go. It's my first ice end season and I'm a bit weary to go out, but I still want to with some correct information. I've got someone coming up from IL this weekend and would like to make it out one day. So if someone is able to help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Versus

Versus, I was on Prior just off the sand beach access on Tuesday this past week. The ice was about 16 inches once you got out on the lake. The edges were a little sketchy but once you got past that the ice was solid.
Keep in mind that was four days ago. I think I am still going to try to get out on Prior this weekend one more time. Maybe see you out there!

Anyone out there that has an up-to-date report on ice conditions? I'ld like to take my kids out this afternoon but would like to know we will be safe.

Welcome to the forums Gaff!

Every lake is different so ice conditions can vary. It depends whether there is current, inlets, springs, etc. Some lakes don't freeze as well due to open water caused by ducks or other factors. Last I heard was that there is still safe ice on most of the metro lakes (yesterday). I would still proceed with caution especially if you're taking the little ones out. Talk to any local bait shops to get info on the ice conditions. If you know of a particular lake that you are going to fish then let me know and I can see what I can do about getting you accurate ice condiitons.

I will be going to Prior Lake. Went out last weekend and was able to drive on. We did well on panfish using waxworms. My 4 year old son had a blast. But with all the rain I'm wondering about the ice. Is there water along the shore where I may have to wade a bit to get onto the solid ice?

Just thought you'ld want to know we made it out there and back with not problems. The ice was still fine and we caught another meal or two of sunnies.
