Calhoun

Went out on Calhoun for the first time in a few months. Didnn't see anyone else out there and the action was pretty slow. Anyone else still punchin holes out there or am I fishing a dead sea?

Hey GreyGoose, I haven't seen too many people on the Mpls. lakes in the last 2 weeks. How was the ice? When I drove by tonight it looked pretty dark & the edges looked like they might be opening up. I'm sure it's plenty thick still, but if we get more rain we might not be ice fishing much longer. I'd like to get out there again if possible. The Calhoun crappies & bluegills usually pick up quite a bit at late ice, especially around the pavillion area. Thanks, Vern

I was gonna head out to Harriet tonight, has anyone been out there in the last couple days? I'll give a report in the morning.

Went to Harriet last night, but the first step I took broke through. I also noticed some open holes in the ice so I said screw it and dumped my minnows and called it a season.

Yep, I think it's over. Just drove by Calhoun & it doesn't look too good. There is some open water around some of the shoreline edges. I suppose you could run a 2 x 4 out to the solid ice, but I've never been a big fan of that. I broke through one time doing that. Not very fun! Vern

When I was out the other night the ice seemed ok where I walk, but I was alittle nervous. Near shore it look pretty iffy, and anywhere on the lake where a hole had been drilled didn't look so good either. There was still at least 20in., but when I punched holes it didn't seem very solid. I'm gonna keep icefishing for alittle more, but I think my trips to the Minneapolis chain are over.
