Hey everybody. I'm thinking about getting out on lake McCarron sometome soon. (Gotta get my new liscense first.) Anyway I was wondering if it's a good lake in the winter. I'll be fishing for bluegill or perch probably.

I tried for crappies 2 or 3 years ago, couldn't find any, but I did find a lot of fairly decent sized (maybe 9 inch) perch shallow. No bluegills. I went back the next year to try for crappies again and again I caught a lot of perch but these were a little smaller than the first year. I haven't fished it since.

Does anyone know if it is safe to drive a vehicle out there?

I was out on Bald Eagle last week and I think the only vehicle you would have trouble with would be a 747! I would say between 24 and 28" of ice. I would think McCarron's would be thicker yet. There isn't an aerator or anything. Gervais and Jane were similiar thickness a few weeks back. I use a hand auger, so I pay attention to that detail!
