"gulp" i am gonna put this out there and see what happens.

how do you guys feel about this year? i don't see any running game, and questionable recievers. on the plus side, i think rodgers has looked pretty good in pre-season. although he physically reminds me of the detmer brothers, and that porn star stache of his has got to go

I've been a packer fan since i was born, but this year looks bad. if they finish 8-8 Brett Favre better be in the pro bowl because he would have had a great year. with morency hurt and Jackson coming back from that concussion, Favre will have to carry that team on his old and tired back.

Viking fan posting from deep in WI. Hate to admit it, but the Pack is better than you think. Probably 10-6 or better this year.

I would agree, the pack has a real nice def. If the off can produce I see them challenging the Bears. Vikes are a big ? with Jackson at QB, and I see him struggling agst NFL def without top notch recievers. Lots of picks with poor thrown balls, but if he can keep that to min, the def should give them 6-7 or wins. I don't see any more. I guess the games agst the pack will determine who finishes ahead of each other. I see pack going 9-7 and the Vikes 7-9 or 6-10.

Vikes fan in Iowa,

The running game will come together. Someone will emerge and not be a star, but will carry enough of the load to be an added dimension late in the year as long as the Bret and Donald can get them thru the first 4-5 games with a .500 record. The defense is looking pretty solid and if Thompson has any brains he should be looking around for another good back and offering 1 of the 5 or 6 d-linemen as trade bate.

Running game is a concern but they put together a very good defense. I think they will go 9-7, 10-6 is pushing it.

The problem with them is Favre refusing to quit and handcuffing the organization. He's a shadow of his former self, and you know Mike McCarthy would love to put Rodgers in there and see what he has, but if he benches Favre he'll get run out of town. Really bad situation for a young team that needs a young quarterback to step up... and soon!

i think the vikes have the edge with their running game, but the nfc north is gonna be weird this year. the bears are the only sure thing, and that is not a lock with grossman. who knows when the lions are gonna make any headway. perhaps the pack can put something together. i like the d and who knows, they made edgar bennet, dorcey levens and ahman green look like great backs.

I think Detroit will have a better year this year than the Pack and the Vikings.

I hope not, but I think they will.

Vikes will have their #2 starting quaterback play in a few games. I think he is better anyway.

Being a vikes fan this is hard. I think the pack will actually have a good season. I think the offense is underated and the def is pretty good. Watch out chicago. But who knows maybe the vikes will surprise us all and turn some heads. Not holding my breath confused.gif

i know it's the first game, but that was a huge win.

the eagles are one of the best teams in the nfc, and the pack needed to get that lambeau swagger back. i think against a weaker defense, that new running back may put up some numbers.

That was a pretty good game all around! Offense needs some work (mainly Bubba), but the defense looked good and that kicker deserved the game ball! GO PACK GO!

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
