I have a guide trip on French this Sunday. If someone could update me on the status of the public access that would be great. Also, coming from Le Sueur, I'm wondering if there are multiple routes to the landing. Thanks for your help.

Team Otter there is only one way to get to the public acess on french, and that is from the east side of the lake. Also

the public acess is very shallow hard to launch a large boat.

I can get my pig of a deep- v in and out no issues. I do have a roller trailer.

From LeSueur, take Hwy 112 to 99 to 21 to Roberds lake blvd (cty rd 11)and take a right.

Take an immediate right on to 165th.

Take your next left, Echo Ave. If you get to the Kelly Lake access, you didn't turn.

Follow to the Hoys resort sign.

Take a right at that street.

When you get to the stop sign, go left.

Access is around the curve and down the steep hill.

I will also be out there on Sunday. I'll look for you.

PS! Watch for rocks on the west end of the lake! smile.gif

Thanx. I'm not sure what lake though. All that I know is that we are staying at some campground on a lake, not sure what to expect.

Bring your musky rod. Head over to the snake river entrance to Cross lake. Its right in town. There is a fishing pier. Guys pulling 45"+ out of there all the time..also large sturgeon.

Get a map! You'll need it.

That area of Rice Co. is hilly and has the goofiest roads. Once upon a time you could drive around French lake.

Oh. do not turn to French lake at Sheelsville, it goes to the north end of the lake only! I'll have to check out how far you have to go from that turn off to get to the landing some day. My guess is 4 miles.

Thanks for the directions. I just wasn't sure if there was more than one way to skin the cat.

How'd you end up doing TO? After we saw you, I pulled the boat and came back over to Kelly/Dudley. My Son was hungry :/

We did pretty good on KD, going back out for the evening bite.

The bite was really "hit and miss" until the afternoon and then we started to get a pattern going. Despite a lot of activity between mid-lake structure, I couldn't get any fish going open-water trolling. We ended up finding some tight pockets of fish along stretches of gravel that were moss-laden along the bottom in 4' of water. Pitching jigs and plastic and #5 shallow Shad Raps took all the fish.

I must say, of all the lakes I've fished in this area, the recreational traffic on French was about as horrible as it can get. At times, it was pathetic. I was relieved to see the Rice County Sheriff show up mid-afternoon and he was busy.

-gilby no - Im in the Alumacraft Trophy - Black.

- TO - yes, that lake gets silly once noon hits. I will only fish it early am like today, or late evening. Sitting nice and quite on KD, I could hear all the jet skis over there.

On a side note. I was fishing big ole suckers today under the famous red and whites, and did quite well. Pulled in 2, 32 inchers, had 1 larger, but she got off before I could get the wife to net it. A few smaller hammer handles.

Bass where large and jumping until some (Contact Us Please) decided to wake board around us...ahh labor day weekend, what can you expect I guess. wink.gif

Back at it tomorrow on KD. I left the boat in the water. If anyones out here tomorrow, stop by and say hi.

I'm fishing Tetonka with Duh. Since we are in first in that league (and it pays a better). We are in 3rd in the Ultimate so our sub will be fishing alone on Jefferson. I haven't been on Jefferson since the early July contest. For the TOC's we will see which lakes get drawn before we choose which direction to run.

Luckycrank - even missing a contest, you should make the top 15 due to your BB bonus on Madison (I would think). Give Gabby a call and see where you are in points now. You might as well try to make the TOC and fish for free money.

First time I've ever realized there is more than 1 Pokegama Lake in this state. Learn something every day. grin.gif

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
