2007 Portable Modification Get Together!!!

Recommended Posts

Matt Johnson

It's about time to start planning for the 2007 Portable Modification Get Together. Yes, it's in the middle of the summer and I'm not putting the long rods away, but it is only about 4 months until we see first ice wink.gif

When: Saturday, September 22

Where: Thorne Bros - Fridley, MN

When: 10am - 4pm

This will be our 3rd Annual modification event and I'm really looking forward to seeing new and old ideas alike. Last year we had several drop-down fish houses in attendance, and of course a handful of portables as well.

Feel free to bring any tools or equipment to modify your fish house and we'll try and work together to help create those tricked-out on-ice fish catching machines!

There will be plenty of space to park the houses along side the Thorne Bros store.

We'll have a grill there for anyone interested in chowing down on a few brats, hamburgers, etc (bring your own food)... also feel free to bring any chips, salads, or any other food you would like to share or devour on your own wink.gif

Thorne Bros is also going to offer a discount/sale to all those in attendance. So if you're looking to checking to add a new Panfish Sweetheart, Walleye Sweetheart, or any variation of a custom Thorne Bros ice rod to your line-up, it will be an excellent opportunity to save a few bucks and see the rods first hand.

This is also a great chance to chat and meet with fellow FMer's and Pro Staff.

I'll be posting more information during the next couple months as we approach the event, so keep an eye out for more bits and pieces...

So, who plans on attending this year's modification get together?

See you there! smile.gif

***We have food!!! smile.gif

Timber Valley and Associates will be donating FREE brats and pop for those in attendance. Timber Valley is a rep group for MarCum and Jiffy, and they will also be showing off a few new ice houses that will be available for the 2007/2008 season.

So I would like to thank them for helping out with our get together.

This sounds like something I may have to attend this year. I haven't been to one yet but would love to see what other guys have done to their houses to get some ideas for my own mods. I have checked out the pages here before and saw some cool stuff. Anything to do with fishing or food or a combo of the two will draw my attention. Looking forward to it.

Anyone have a way to strap a carseat to the icehouse? grin.gif My little buddy will probably be making his first ice trip this year.

Looks like we'll have a pretty decent semianar line-up. So far it looks like Borch will help discuss the team concept of attacking a lake during the winter. And Corey Bechtold and myself will discuss aggressive tactics for big crappies. We'll also have some seminars on rods and gear, as well as modifying your portable... I've also arranged for some gear to be given away...

If you're looking to buy a portable fish house, auger, new flasher, etc... then we're going to give a discount to everyone...

Last year we modified a few houses, and this year we can certainly do the same if anyone is interested...

Will Thorne Bros. have their ice stuff out. I am in the market for a portable shelter, I would like to come up and talk ice fishing and go home with a new portable. Thanks.

I must be crazy, but I can't wait for winter.

We won't have a lot of fish houses out, but we will still honor the discount if you're looking to buy one on Saturday, even though we don't have one in-stock. You can pay for one on Saturday and as soon as they arrive one will be waiting for you. Well before ice fishing season smile.gif

Pepin is natural feature of Mississippi, not man made.   Seems the Chippawa dumps a lot of sand in that causes the mississippi to back up, forming lake pepin.  But the ice going out on pepin is probably due to runoff starting and raising the river level and flow as much as anything.    If I were to compare stuff I would look at average temp for Virginia in march and april of those late ice years compared to this year.  Throw in May for good measure.

I can not remember the starting dates on those years but Brent would know! Cliff

Like they say down in Loosiana, you pinch tail and suck the head.   And when they eat them, looks like they dump a bucket full on some newspaper on a picnic table and have at them.    But they still hadn't made it all the way west as of last summer, and I figure getting stopped with a cooler full of rusties heading home from the east wouldn't look good on my permanent record.... One of these years though.   I hear they are west of oak narrows now.

Yes, had it on wife's iphone when that was the only smartphone in the family.   I think I would have to have one of the huge phablets to be able to see anything but I am old and don't see that well anymore, when it comes to fine detail.   But good you mentioned it since I had forgotten about it.

some of the lake access areas might be interesting to navigate thru ad DNR is prepping the public landings

That is a hearty fish.  I guess that is the benefit of the late winter
    • Big Red Lodge
Good to know.  Thanks for the update

I have not heard of any either, but the weather is looking good.  I'm optimist for opener

Thanks for your updates Cliff . Out of curiosity , if this date holds true of Monday April 30th for the start of this years event , would you happen to know how this date sits with past late ice out years , for instance 1996 , 2013 ?
    • Wakemup
Thanks Cliff for the update, and thanks Brett for the info too!
