Y a h oo is reporting Twins are scouting Mike Piazza- 10 years too late, but still might hit out 20 a year- better than Ford or Kubel

Would be surprised if the Twins would pay better then 8 mil a year for a DH who can't thro ( bad Shoulder)for that kind of money they could go find a healthy, power hitting 3rd basemen.

Piazza is hurt right now. If we did pick him up I am sure Oakland would eat some of his salary. Piazza would start in the 7th hole behind Hunter and hopefully move up to the 4 hole and bump Cuddyer. I don't know why but I am not a Cuddyer fan. Especially in the 4 hole. He is not a 4 hitter. Castillo, Bartlett, Mauer, Piazza, Morneau, Hunter, Cuddyer, Kubel, and I suppose Punto. We will see what happens.

Piazza is hitting .282 with 1 HR and 8 RBI this year..........not my idea of a #4 hitter! He couldn't replace Punto at #9! I'll take Garrett Jones for a DH and a fill-in 1b-of spot. Give the kid a chance to make it, and don't get a washed-up, old has-been, who can't play defense, just because of the press he has gotten.

I never understood this thing about each position HAS to have THIS type of player(like 3b needs to hit for power, drive in runs,etc.). confused.gif I think it is a TEAM game and you need to look at the overall picture. One player picks up anothers weaknesses, and the whole team benefits. I will take Punto at 3b defensively over 90% of the 3ber's out there. He is a great utility player, and as such is mvp for the team. I've noticed they keep trying others at 3b, but they have been a liability defensively, with little improvement offensively.....so until they find someone better than Punto, he's their BEST option. If he could just lay off the high- hard one, he'd be hitting 50 pts better. Maybe he needs to crouch more at the plate....make them bring it down a little. The teams have him swinging at "their" pitches.......good scouting on their part.

I happen to like Cuddy in the 4 hole better than any other options I've seen. The L-R-L-R middle of the lineup is great, don't mess with the successes. laugh.gif

PUNTO MVP? Did you mean MVP as in MOST VULNERABLE PIRHANA to be benched.

As a utility infielder.... MVP.....big difference.

Piazza... no thanks!

True Piazza is no where near the player he once was but he is still somewhat of a threat. This is his first year in the AL as a DH. I would bet in a full year Piazza could hit 25-30 HR's as a full time DH. Did Piazza sign a 1 yr deal in Oakland? If the Twins don't trade for him now they could sign him next year to a 1 yr incentive laiden deal. But when is the last time the Twins signed a name player?

Could he stay healthy as a DH? That's the real question. That article also said the Yankees were shopping him, so I am not counting on anything yet

I'm not big on Piazza, but I would take him over any DH we have right now.

I'll take Dimitri Young. He is having a great year and would fit in perfectly. Switch hitting DH that could also play 1B when Morneau needs a day off or wants to DH.

Punto MVP? I don't think so. He would be a great guy to have on the bench and play 2-3 games a week giving guys a day off, but as an everyday player, he is lacking.

Let's refer to the Phil Neven experiment, which looked good on paper, but never developed into much.

I would take either Piazza or Jones as our DH. Pretty bad when you put Tyner as your DH and he has never hit a HR. Anybody would be better than what we have.

Why is Gardy so reluctant on letting Luis Rodriguez DH or even play for that matter- he has a little pop in his bat, better than Tyner at the plate.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
