Hey Guys, Bill here.....my partner's mom is in the hospital and he is not going to be able to make it. He said I might be able to use his boat. So I am looking for either a partner to fish in his boat or someone with a boat that will allow me to go with them. or if someone is already registered and does not have a partner, I would love to join them. let me know. You can email me at [email protected]

We will blasted off when light conditions are good. This Morning we took off at 6:30 no problem but we will just play it by sight. Everyone needs to be there before 6:30 for the pre-event meeting. smile.gif

Could someone tell me the closest highway to the sylvia landing. Or what the quickest way to get there from Litchfield would be. Thankyou,

Hey Central How did you do this morning?

If your coming from litchfield, the best way to get to the landing, is to take HWY 12 to cokato, and then go north at the stop light. When you are going north, i think its CR 3, but i might be wrong. There will be a caseys on the right corner, you have to go north on that road by the light. You will come up to french lake, which has a gas station on the right side by the stop sign. Keep going north till you get to the first tar road. Take a left. Then you have to take a Left again within a mile or two on the tar road. You will be going up and down hills, Then you are going to have to take a left right before the tar turns gravel. Keep going straight and the landing will be on the right side.

Please make sure that you are there by 6:15. We will have a meeting before we take off just to talk about everything.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me or drop a line here.

Its going to be a great day on the water. Cya there.

We had some good luck in the morning and it got better as the day went on. Not a lot of fish but some good sized ones. I think we had eleven pounds for the 6 hours of fishing. I lost one key fish mad.gif

We went out there this morning. We got very lost on our way there, not really lost, I new where I was I just could not find the landing. Doesnt that county believe in having a sign that says boat access this way, or something. All I saw were signs that said, no access this way, get out of here. By the time we found the landing it was nice. Caught a few fish, found a few spots and thats all a guy can ask for.

it is not somethign that they strive to have alot of people come to the lake becuase it is such a busy lake during the weekends in the summer.

Its a awesome area thow.

OK, Hester has me worried now, I have never fished that lake before and won't be able to until the day of the tourney, so if anyone can give me detailed directions on where the landing is that would be a good thing. I'll be coming from Hwy.55

The lakes used to be called twin and sylvia. Now the Dnr has renamed them to east and west sylvia (Don't ask me why ?). The landing is on the southwest side of west sylvia. (Formerly known as Twin)

Here is a good map of the area. Heading west on 55 from Annandale, turn left (south) on county road 3. Take the next right on to 80th st. Turn left onto Quinn Ave. Access is a couple mile south on left.

Bassnspear gave good directions now that I look at them again. Going north from cokato hwy 3, go past the french lake 4 way stop sign and take your first left tar road.

Next, take your first tar left hwy/rd 55(the road I missed completly) its by some new houses. Then take you next tar right. keep going a ways and you run into the landing.

I would also get someones cell #( maybee bassnspear) in case you have a hard time in the early morning darkness.

It would be a shame to miss out on it due to directions.

Bass-n-Spear, Starting at 6:30 theres a good chance somebody could pull in a nice pike or Walleye, depending on where they start out.

We are not interested in the pike pot. If there is a side pot, that's fine but our vote is no pike pot in the "main" event. C&E

We are ither going to do it as a group for this event, or we are not going to do it at all.

We will talk about it at the landing. Lets not discuss it here please.

Thanks

Sluggomaster,

I have spent the last couple hours thinking how I would respond to your reply. Here is my reply. I understand the term "Bass Event" and I understand the rules of the fishing event that were sent to me. No Changes in the event were ever sent to us. Sounds to me like a small group got together made some changes in the rules, but decided not to tell any else. Maybe I should just send you a check for the event and stay home.

The mistake was made by myself.

Never took the pike rule out when i started to send out the event information. I was using the same sheet that i used for a different gathering. So it is my fault that i sent out the wrong information.

We will discuss this at the event.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
