It's a fine time of the year to be fishing for smallies in southeast Minnesota!

A friend and I went to the Root Sunday for some smallmouth on the fly action and caught around 30 or so bass with the largest running a healthy 17". I did hook one larger bass that snapped my fly off at the tippet, but I think the problem was more of a bad knot than anything else.

Fly fishing for smallmouth can be an absolute blast, and last night was no exception. They were feeding in riffles and in slower tailouts of pools and a few were caught in some slower eddies as well. The fly of choice was a "zoo cougar" with a yellow tail and gray deer hair head.

Enjoy these warm days!

Nice smallie there Randy. My fiance and I were down there canoeing a couple of weeks ago and just had a blast. They were just smoking the lures. None that big, but when you are catching more than paddling what a great day!! laugh.gif Good luck on future outings
