9/10/07 Report.

It was SLOW! Got on the water about 8:30 am (too cold at 5am LOL) and hit a few of my usual walleye haunts. NOTHIN after 1.5 hours. Went down the SS a bit and managed to boat 3 walleye and 2 small lakers just before the Poplar. No consistant depth or colors. Gold/red got 1 laker and 1 eye and the blue/chrome Renosky continues to catch fish in the sun. It got 1 eye and 1 laker. 1 eye was caught on a green/crome ripstick with a 2oz. weight 40' behind it. 1 eye was keepable and the others were too big. Both lakers were shore trout and went back to get to OR size. tongue.gif

Looks like tomorrow and Wed will be too windy so I may finally paint the house. frown.gif

Wade I know how you fealt yesterday. Several times I said 1/2 more and Im gone and then I wouyld get a fish.

Oh well it was a beautiful day til the west wind started pickin up about 4pm and I hit the road.

Hopefully Sat/Sun we can get out and try it again. Who is up for a Lake Superior outing on Sat? It would be cool to get a few boats out and cover some water and meet afterwards for a BS sesion and some drinkypoos. Right ST?

I've got an AM soccer game and then a wedding Sat. If I said I might make it out Sunday then I'd jinx everything and the winds will blow so I won't say that. If the timing is right, a quick BS session and some drinkypoos might work.

I didn't make it out fishing on Sunday. Instead I went out and helped remove some of them geese that are always in Northlanders way wink.gif. This Sat. I'm taking a kid out in the morning for the waterfowl youth hunt and will be bow hunting in the afternoon. I've made the switch, the "Never Enuff" is getting winterized next week . Where did the summer go?

Ran, its good to know fellow FMers are doing their part to reduce the goose traffic on the river. grin.gif Its painful to winterize the boat. I'm debating it myself....its a long time until spring. This weekend is also the grouse opener, so plan to be in the woods.

Ran shoot em all!! I have had a few close encounters the past few days on the river as well as the Cheesey Entry.

A goose at 45-60mph aint no fun. I need a bigger bow mount with a razor blade prop to downsize them before they get to the windshield. shocked.gif

MMMM....Honker. My freezer is a bit low...but i don't wanna pay that darn out of state license for WI.

Can't wait for two more months to head back to ND and pay that darn out of state license there. Snow geese galore! It'll put my new 12 gauge to great use, and maybe rest the 10 gauge for awhile!

On another note. Sunday lake fishing would be awesome.

Issue: My sweet 2004 bright red xtended cab truck i am so proud of is in the Ford shop for its 6th transmission replacment as of yesterday, and i'm assuming it will be atleast a week and a half before i get it back again. So....My trailer is parked in my garage, with no tow utility.

I'm willing to hop in with anyone else, and i can bring my gear along....or...if someone wants to go with me, and has a truck to tow the boat, we can split that way also.

All inquiries welcome!

Till then.....Tight Lines~

I am game either way. Yes. 5 total replacements to date, and 6th issue just went in yesterday. Ford corporate is not liking to hear from my anymore. I know...soon, I will have a nice check back in my hands (minus milage). So extremely frustrating! I think bringing it to NorthStar Ford isn't helping much either.

Buy a new truck! Seriously, what are you doing to that thing that you need 6 Trannies. Typical FORD!

My Issue: A typical 20 YO kid at the time looking for a nice shiny F150 truck. I was, and am, young at the time looking at 40K vehicles. Of course a typical salesman would not put in effort. Deal is, at the time, as i still do, had a 20 + dollar an hour job, and could afford the truck. The salesman kept telling me "you don't want those trucks, what you want is an Explorer or Ranger". I had my mind sent on an extended cab F150 so thats what i wanted. I drove the half hour that night to Two Harbors Ford and was treated like a rockstar, and bought my truck that night. My issue comes in with teh warranty. Extended warranty will only pay for towing service to your nearest ford store. Heck, i would love to get it to Superior and try Ford there. Man....I wish this truck would get the hail damage that the cities gets....

Either way...I'm not settling for anything but a replacement, or buy back from Frod. I've pissed around to much, and don't feel reliable in the truck, little lone driving half way through ND going home with my 6 year old son! Just don't work.

I'll keep ya all in on how things work out. What really blows is, i have 60K on the truck now. My factory warranty was up at 36K miles (When my repairs were free under factory warranty). Since i have been working under my extended warranty, i purchased the 5 Yr, 100K warranty with a 50 deductable. Well, at 18 (19 now) repairs @ 50 bucks a pop, its just unrealistic to keep the vehicle. Way, way to costly to keep it, trust it, and feel safe in it.

Arbitration process with a lawyer, here i come!

Anyone out there reading a lake superior forum, that has had experienece with Ford and the arbitration court want to chime in with hints, please do! My boat is useless, my deer hunting this weekend is useless. Heck, i took my car off the market for sale to drive it. Ford has no loaners! My gosh. ARG!!!!

Woodie, If Northlanders boat is too crowded, I have room in my new boat for you on Sat. Although I don't have a planer board mast, boards or down riggers. Heck, I only got two rod holders installed so far but I got room for you if its needed.

Now let me say this. I can surely sympathize with your problem, I had the same type issue with a rear end that kept failing in a pickup I owned. Ring gear went out. Had the truck back to the dealer time and time again. Only I went a different route after my warranty ran out. I threatened to drive it thru the dealership front windows and park it in the show room. They agreed to try to correct it one more time if I paid for parts. I did. Then one day the back axle broke (probably from all the stresses from bad gears). I parked it, told them to go get it, and I stopped making payments. They sold it at auction, then demanded the balance of what I owed from what they got for it at auction. I negotiated a 50% payoff of the balance as I had recipts and work orders to prove it was junk from the beginning, I was not going to pay them full price for that piece of crap.

I paid it off, and thats the LAST dime CHEVROLET has ever gotton from me. So lets all agree this is happens to all brands and not start the ford/chevy/dodge bashing.

Frod...as in fraud? j/k grin.gif

As a GM guy I don't have anything on Ford for ya...but good luck and don't give in! mad.gif When little ones are involved safety and reliabitlity are huge.

Northlander, I didn't know all the Ford dealers in the area are associated together...how long has that been? Just curious only.

They are all associated...they have been for quite some time. I just wish i could try a different tecnician. Might have a differnt though on what to try to remedy the situation. Just so happens, every one of the trannys have been redone by the same guy. Even being owned by the same company, i still feel a relief going from duluth to TH or Superior to deal on a vehicle.

I wish i could just auction the darn thing. Maybe just get it repo'd! They definately would wish they wouldn't take it back! But...I can't do my credit union bad...(or my credit)

Its been several years now that this company (wich cant be named by forum rules) has had its hands on all the local ford shops. Im guessing 6 plus? Not exactly sure.

My next Ford Truck I purchase will be sold out of town.

I would love to Gary, However, My extended warranty must be used at the "closest" ford dealership. Which is why i keep getting stuck at the shop it is at now.

I got out yesterday morning for a bit. Left Loonsfoot at 0600. Fished till 1100, I managed one nice Laker about 5 lbs. Hit a TD7 trolled by itself in about 22 fow. Around 11 the wind kicked up the waves to where I didn't feel like fighting the wind and waves anymore so I called it. I get back to the landing and there I was with a case of beer to share and not a single fellow FMer to share them with.....was it too cold?

I got up and looked out at the trees waving and decided it wouldnt be worth the few hours I may get out there. Got some stuff done around the house that I have put off all summer.

Having a case isnt a problem. Keep it cold and bring it to Island this afternoon. We will be there about 1pm.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
