Fishing Minnesota along with Cabin Fever Sporting goods will be hosting an Archery Seminar on August 4, 2007 at Cabin Fever Spoting Goods in Victoria, MN. This day will start at noon and end around 4 or so.

Myles keller will be attending from Wildlife Research Center and will be there to answer any deer hunting questions you may have. I am also in the process of lining up more reps from other archery supply companies.

Other reps from

Mathews

Double Bull Archery

This is a great chance to talk to reps that can answer many questions you have in regards to archery hunting and also a good time to look over some new archery products that Jeff has on display in the store.

I look forward to meeting many of you that day at Cabin Fever.

I remember hearing about this when it was still in the works. Jeff and the folks at Cabin Fever do a great job for sportsmen in the SW metro and beyond. I can't wait for this event.

Let me know if you need any help with this one. I'm not far away.

Thanks HL for the update. Myles Keller is from the area I grew up but never met him so that will be a treat.

Tom, That sounds great. Wow!! Myles Keller and Reps at Cabin Fever!!! Now all you need is our own JNelson and it would be a home run.

Jeff at Cabin Fever will take care of all your hunting and fishing needs. If he does not have it on hand he will get it for you ASAP.

Oh ya I almost foregot he has a LH DRENALIN there for me. I just have to wait until my wifes birthday grin.gifgrin.gif.

See ya there.

Just trying to keep it fresh in people's minds. Cabin Fever is a great place for archers and sportsmen alike and they have been a sponsor on here for the last year. Great folks there. I hope everyone makes this a huge event.

The Cabin fever staff and myself are working on getting more reps to attend this seminar. Jeff will have a few sales on and this day would also be a great time to try out that new bow that you may have been thinking about. Jeff also has many archery items on hand for one to look at to get ready for the upcoming archery season.

Cabin Fever also handles other hunting and fishing gear for one to take a look at and you can purchase your license that day.

I hope to see many of you the 4th of August.

Harvey,

This looks like a good time, I am trying to clear the schedule. Where is this place located. How far from the Northfield area?

Cabin fever is located on Hwy 5 in Victoria, west of Eden prairie. I would guess about a 45- 1 hour drive from Northfield at the most.

This should be a great chance to look over some archery products, talk to some reps and maybe pick Myles Kellers brain. You will also have the pleasure of meeting many FM members there.

I heard through the grapevine that Mr. Dietz Dittrich, FM's archery pro will also be in attendance.

Here it is folks, a great chance to rub elbows with some of the greats in the industry. The knowledge shared here will be priceless, specifically if you come prepared with some good questions for these folks. Pick their brain, ask them about early season strategies, ask them about gear, anything!

I'd love to attend and put some more names to faces, but you're in good hands. Tom (Lee Harvey) has more bow-kills on big deer than I'll ever have! Deitz is an accomplished bow-man as well, as tournament archer and hunter.

Joel, sorry to hear that you cannot make it. This should be a day where many can get that archery question answered and also be able to check out alot of equipment.

There will also be reps for Scentlock and Block targets. Still working on more.

The 4th is drawing near and things look to be lining up well. I hope many of you can make it and look over all the products, talk to some reps and meet many FMer's.

If anyone has any questions in regards to this event, please ask here and we can answer those questions for you.

Cabin fever will also have tree stands on sale, clothing and select archery products for the day.

Well, the day at Cabin Fever went rather well. Dietz, thanks for helping many people at the range as I'm sure they were happy with thier shooting.

It was great to talk with the staff from all the different company's. I couldn't remember half of what we talked about in regards to hunting deer with a bow. I thought I was pumped before I went and know I want to go hunting.

Dawn, thanks for getting my arrows done yesterday so it wasnt needed to make a return trip.

Thanks to all who came and sorry to miss the ones that couldnt make it.

It was a great event, i went there to pick Miles Keller brain and I think I did a good job of that. Had a great talk with Jeff's Dad whom I had seen before but never met him. Got to look at the ladder stands and of course the other items!! Thanks to Cabin Fever and of coarse HL for putting this fine event on. Shwangman

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
