  2. Hello everyone! I'm wondering if you have seen or heard about Strawberry Blonde Hellcats. I came to hear about these lures last year working on Bigstone Lake in Ortonville, Mn. The story I heard was about the legendary fisherman Gerhart Block and how he used and also painted Hellcats to consistently reel in big fish. I seen there was a similar post in 2006, but not much info was given. Anyone have a pic of the original lure or one painted by block. I just bought a hellcat at an antique store. I'll post the pic of it, and hopefully some of you can give me some insight or some anecdotes.

    Shore Fishing Walleye, Where?

Anyone got any place that they would like to share with me to catch walleyes from shore. That is good anytime of the season. Preferably public land. I've got bad hips and cant be lifting my canoe any longer, so Im stuck to fishing on the shore. If you have any ideas of places let me know. Id be grateful for the advice. Minnesota or North Dakota advise welcome. Oh, Ill be fishing at night mostly. Ill be using live bait, Chubs and leeches. Thanks!
  4. I discovered just recently that the May Township Board in Washington County MN is holding a public hearing on whether or not to block access to a public body of water from a public right a way. Stillwater is the county seat of Washington County. Specifically they want to stop you, hunters or fisherman from using Carnelian Creek to access Turtle Lake. This was brought to the attention of the May Township Board by the Carnelian-Marine St Croix Watershed District. When I talked with Jim Shaver, Administrator of the Watershed district, he said that the property owners that surround this creek and lake contacted him about hunting activity and potential trespassing on private property. The owners are also concerned about their animals that they have and dog trials that they hold on the property. Jim Shaver also told me that the Watershed District is concerned that if someone got hurt using that waterway, that the Watershed District would be liable because the Watershed District improved the creek so that the water would drain from Big Marine Lake through this creek, eventually ending up at the St. Croix River. I do not believe that the Watershed District has any liability. Jim Shaver said they then went to the Township Board with their concerns and the town board drafted an ordinance blocking access from a public right a way to a public water way. I spoke with Bill Voedisch who is the May Township Chairman and he told me basically the same thing plus that the Watershed District is concerned about damage to a structure that is in the creek. The public water is Carnelian Creek that flows out of Big Marine Lake into Turtle Lake. The location would be in May Township of Washington County. This is on 155th Street North just east of Manning Ave North. Manning Ave North runs north of Hwy 36. 155th Street is approximate 5 1/2 miles north of Hwy 36. So, May Township is having a public hearing on March 1st at 7 PM at town hall, 13939 Norell Avenue North, Stillwater MN. If you can make the meeting and make your thoughts known that would be great. I can not be there as I will be out of town but the Township Supervisor told me that I could submit a letter expressing my concerns and it will be include. So if you can be there come, if you can't, you can submit a letter by email. Below is the contact info for the Chairman and the other two Supervisors. May Township Board Chairman, Bill Voedisch-Chair, 651-433-5976, [email protected] John Pazlar-Supervisor, 651-433-5013, [email protected] John Adams-Supervisor, 651-430-8134, [email protected] Here is the contact info for the Administrator of the Carnelian-Marine-St. Croix Watershed District and website. http://www.cmscwd.org/ Administrator: Jim Shaver Phone: (651) 433-2150 Thanks for your help.

  6. March 4, 2018: We know everyone is waiting for River updates....We haven’t made the 120 miles round trip to International Falls to check yet. Grants Dad does drive that way once a week and when we know more we will let you know. We are hoping to have a report in a few weeks as there is quite a bit of ice on the river still. March 11th, 2018: As of Wednesday there was no improvement on the river opening up. The temperatures have not been that warm with very little melting happening. Also the we have had some pretty cold nights in the single digits and low teens. This coming week looks like we should have warmer weather so hopefully it will get things moving.
  7. In preparation for mt first trip to the Boundary Waters, I decided we might need a good, lightweight fish cradle to land the giant pike we're so sure to catch there. I shopped around and decided I could make one as good or better than what was available. After buying the materials needed, I ended up with enough to make more of them than my group needed. I'd like to trade for hook remover, jaw spreader, lure packs, or most anything useful to some rookie pike fishermen. I'll consider just about anything.
  8. When January 27 9 am where Blue lake crappies are the target but I can point to other kinds of fish. please bring treats and this for people of all ages.
  9. Hello everyone, Does anyone know if there are any fish in the East Branch of Raven Stream? It's in the town of St Benedict, just north of New Prague? I'm thinking of buying a bit of land that happens to have this stream running through it, but I would only want it if there fish in the stream. I'm not too proud, it doesn't need trout in it, panfish and bullheads would suit me just fine. :) Anybody familiar with this stretch of water? Thanks in advance for any replies!
  10. Im going to cenaiko lake tomorrow morning. Ive been there once before but got there mid day so didn't have the following issue. Is there a way to get there before 6am when the coon rapids dam park opens? im guessing before the park opens there is a gate at the enterance? I want to get there around 430-5 so I don't miss the prime fishing time, being it opens at 6 that's a good amount of prime time wasted. So my question, has anyone gone there (or the coon rapids dam park itself) before it opens at 6? if so, how do u get in? I don't want to have to walk from the side streets all the way to the lake. or is there a place to park closer to the lake outside the park area? EDIT: It is okay to fish the lake before the park opens, there is a sign at the lake saying fishing is 1 hour before sunup until 11pm.
  11. Im wanting to go and fish the missisippi river by my place, there is a little inlet with some down trees, a drop off and a little bridge that goes over the inlet. Its off of east river road at the end of 79th. I believe its called riverview heights park. My questions is, has anyone gone fishing there? I see people there quite often and have chatted with them a little bit, but haven't gotten much out of them. It looks promising for some largemouth and catfish. if you have fished there what works good? and are they biting now? I will be there at about 5 am tomorrow morning.

  13. I am looking for a kayak anchor for my 10 foot sit on top kayak. I chose the Scotty arm anchor mechanism that I'll mount on the back. While researching it seemed simpler than an anchor trolley. Im wondering what size/shape anchor will nail you to the floor? This is mostly for lakes. When I river fish in normally just drift. The internet has people talking about ocean tides and rivers and massive lakes. So, I'll ask you all. What works for you best on MN water? Do you have the chain too with a release mechanism? Obviously, less weight the better since it will off center. Thanks.
  14. This summer I am looking to fish Lake Superior from shore this summer and coming fall. I have never fished a lake of this size of for these fish before. How can I make my trip successful? Any tips for beginners? What rod/reel should I get, and what line/rigs should I use? What should I look for when finding a spot to fish? Are there any hot spots I should try in the Duluth area?
  15. Price Reduced to $6,900! I am selling my aluminum 1999 Crestliner 1750 Sportfish with 90HP Mercury boat. I bought it brand new and it was well kept. The boat was sitting on my boat lift and the lake rose 14” overnight. It floated off the lift and sustained the following damage in the storm. The drivers windshield glass was broken, frame is still in good shape. Passenger window and middle window are installed now and in good shape. The starboard side of the boat sustained scratches and a few minor dents. The port side sustained a couple minor dents and scratches. The back sustained a few scratches. The 90HP Mercury motor has scratches on the motor cover. The boat was in excellent condition and was valued at $12,000 prior to the storm. The good news is, the boat is ready to go. It runs great. You can take it to the lake today and use it. It is still a very good boat and motor. The interior is still in excellent shape, no interior damage from the storm (except a couple of small scratches). 4 boat seats included. Pedestal seat for bow. Bow converts to a fishing platform. Swimming platform and ladder. Bimini is in excellent shape. Mechanically it is still in excellent shape. Floor boarding is very solid. All electronics are in excellent working order. 2 live wells. New bilge pump last year. The motor continues to run excellent, have never had an issue with it. The motor was professionally serviced every year. Power tilt. Comes with an EZ Loader trailer in excellent shape, that was bought new with the boat. New trailer bearings this year. Has an excellent starting battery. Has a transom saving bar for towing and tie down straps that are included. MinnKota Trolling Motor, in very good shape is included. 2 anchors included. This is an excellent boat for fishing and family fun. With the current all-purpose prop it tops out around 37 MPH. I am selling the boat, motor, trailer, and trolling motor, as is for $6,900. Located in Mankato, MN. Message me if interested.
  16. Had an awesome day fishing down at the Ford dam. Another angler actually saw that I had walked upstream pretty far and he decided to give me a ride back in his boat, had a great time and ended getting into some crappie and bass. Awesome that there are people out there willing to do that, very rarely I'm able to fish from a boat!

Crappie Coffin - Ice Fishing Net

Welcome Anglers,To those who love the sport of ice fishing. We all have a story or two of the BIG ONE that got away. Now we can show the big one that didn't get away! Introducing the Crappie Coffin, the only ice fishing net on the market today. Born out of the frustration of losing that big fish at the top of the hole. I decided to go to work on a solution to this problem. The Crappie Coffin is the result of this effort. Placed in the drilled ice hole, you drop your jig down through the center of the Crappie Coffin and fish as always. The hooked fish is reeled up and enters through the one way passage at the bottom and is then trapped within the net. Also your sonar transducer will work normally placed inside the unit. No more lost fish wrapped around your transducer. Once you use the Crappie Coffin you'll never want to fish without one. http://www.tacticalfishing.net
  18. This past week we have seen plenty of storms, rain and heat but, that has not stopped fishermen and women from getting fish in their live wells. On the MN side this past week we have seen some good fishing. Pulling orange, gold or pink spinners with crawlers or pulling raps in 18-24 feet south of Oak and Flag Island as well as Little Oak has been producing fish. On the Ontario side pulling spinners with crawlers has been successful with the orange gold and pink colors due to fish feeding on crayfish. The depth has been between 24 and 27 feet in mud and on the breaks off of the reefs. The Muskie bite has been really heating up with a few 50-53-inch fish caught this week and many 40+. Wind swept points and shallow areas with boulders tight to weeds have been producing fish using top water baits. A few reports of weedy bays producing as well. Until next week, good luck fishing!
