2020 Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports & Info
LakeofthewoodsMN replied to Rick's topic in Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports - Hunting - Events
On the south end... With water temps dropping, some beautiful walleyes caught this week. Walleyes being targeted using three methods, drifting or slow trolling crawler harnesses, trolling crankbaits and vertical jigging. Walleyes are located in various areas of the lake, deep mud, shallow water adjacent shorelines and deep water reefs. As a rule, the larger walleyes have been over deep mud and deep structure. As fall progresses, walleyes will start getting schooled up in key areas along the south shore, in many cases relating to shiner runs. On the Rainy River... Larger schools o -

So I am looking for advice on successful approaches on opening weekend at Osakis. I am new to fishing Osakis and I am not asking for you spots, more what you use and types of water. I have fished many times early in the year at Otter Tail. Early on it is almost exclusively a shiner bite typically on dropoffs near shallow water. Are shiner the tickets at Osakis as well? Or are there other baits that work early in the year? Also any common depths to try etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Got a flyer in the mail the other day from these folks. Anybody check them out yet? Looks like a brand new start up business. Looks like they offer everything the others don't provide-customer service related. I heard a few months ago that possibly two new barge services were coming to Vermilion, this is one!

Is anyone out there getting tired of all these fishing tournaments? Lake Vermilion just came off an August with way too much Bass tournament pressure. Several folks are really concerned about what all that pressure is doing to our fish populations. The week of August, first week of Sept. there was a 3 day B.A.S.S. event. There was pre fishing all week then the 3 day event. It looked like a swarm of locusts out here on the Lake. People who live on the lake and people who came up for vacation to fish bass could hardly find a place to fish. B.A.S.S does not practice true catch and release

Hey; Just reaching out to others who have or may have a greater knowledge of where to locate a good source for trapping crayfish in the Twin Cities Metro Area. I have been working the rivers and have found some good locations, but the population of people in those areas have created challenges. Mainly, not leaving things alone that don't belong to you. I had found a good resource for the invasive Rusty Crayfish and was doing well trapping those, but as the weather got nicer and more people were looking for places to fish along shore lines, my traps were being disturbed, and worse yet,

2020 Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports & Info
LakeofthewoodsMN replied to Rick's topic in Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports - Hunting - Events
On the south end... A lot of walleyes caught this week on Lake of the Woods. For many of the AIM tournament anglers, a lot of huge walleyes were caught this week. Charter boats and guides doing a nice job of finding good schools of eater walleyes as well as the slots and trophies. At times, eaters might be in a different location vs the big walleyes. Walleyes are being caught in 14 - 36' of water. Two main patterns, crawler harnesses and crankbaits. Best spinner colors, hammered gold, pink, glow white, glow red or orange. Shiny or brighter colors are good starts for crankbaits. It is -
After fishing every handful in years in Minnesota for 40 years, I'm FINALLY going to bring my wife up to Vermillion and see it for the first time. I'm chasing smallmouth and pike only (well, I'll gladly wrestle with a fooled Musky but not fishing for them). If the largemouth fishing is better than the smallmouths, we'd probably chase some of them too. Staying at Ludlows on the island. Boy I'd love ANY help with where to start my searching for the smallies and pike and what to key in on that time of year. I'll have basically two days to fish and will have my own bass boat. I am an

Hey guys! Some buddy's and I usually make the trip up to the Sioux Narrows of Lake of the Woods in June. This year with the border being closed, we went up to Lake Vermilion instead. It was our first time being on the lake. We caught quality fish of every species. Video linked below! -

2020 Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports & Info
LakeofthewoodsMN replied to Rick's topic in Lake of the Woods Fishing Reports - Hunting - Events
On the south end... The deep summer "Dog Days" patterns for walleyes are in full swing producing excellent fishing. As a rule, the big walleyes are hanging out on the deep mud in 30 - 34' of water. Two main techniques, drifting or trolling spinners with crawlers or leeches at about 1.0 - 1.25 MPH. Hammered gold, hammered silver and glow white are good starting colors. The second technique is trolling crankbaits through various schools of walleyes over the deep mud. Switch colors often but some starters, pink uv firetiger, chrome / blue, firetiger, and gold. Some walleyes are still being -

Shore fishing - Ottertail area
SoldierGirl posted a topic in Alexandria-Miltona-Ottertail-Battle Lake-Perham-Fergus Falls Area Fishing Reports - Hunting
So after returning to Minnesota after living pretty much everywhere else, I have finally returned to fishing. Didn't realize how much I missed it until I started again. I'm tired of fishing the river under the bridge like a troll so I'm looking for some good spots to shore fish around Ottertail. My regular spot is too warm now and the fish have moved on. I'm one of the odd balls who's not into muskies or walleyes. Really prefer bluegill and bass. I'm a bobber, nightcrawler and beer kinda girl. Any advice on where to go? How are the lakes in Maplewood State Park. -
After several months of Chemo treatments, bi-weekly lab and Dr. visits my Leukemia cancer went into complete remission allowing my first time on the lake this soft water season. What a joy it was to wet a line again. My son picked up a 2019 18 ft. Tracker, Helix 9 Si/Di, Lakemaster Chip, Minn Kota Ulterra 80 W/pilot auto Stow/Deploy. What an awesome rig. After ½ hour or so trying all the Helix 9 and Ulterra features we turned on “follow the contour" at 19 FOW on the Lakemaster contour. Sonar water depths varied 14’ to 22’ tracking the 19’ contour. I turned on my Navionics boating app track to
