  1. I am going up to camp in the middle of June. Anybody have any suggestions about baits and depths etc. for Walleyes and Bass?
  2. Don’t ya love when the weather forecasters are wrong? S’pose to rain all weekend, but we were blessed with overcast/partly sunny weather. Over the weekend, we fished around on 3 little lakes (all <200 acres) in Bemidji area (Clearwater county). One lake was already up to 66 degrees in the middle! Most vegetation is still low except a few lily pads were just hitting the surface at the shallows; bulrushes are still dried/brown. With the warmer weather this week, I’ll bet the lakes will start filling out with vegetation in a matter of days and probably be growing fast.
  3. I tried to search and found a few old posts regarding Superior National Forest (quoted at the end of my post). I usually go grouse hunting in the Superior National Forest every fall, but I've never been up there fishing. I'm planning to head up there in ~1 month with a couple of my friends and their families and we will be bringing canoes. We're hoping to catch some walleye ideally. When I've been up in the fall hunting we usually try to camp by one the many lakes (Wilson, Whitefish, Silver Island, Bone...). The posts at the end are over a decade old already. I'm sure that some of it hasn't ch
  4. Hi all. I am currently at Rush Lake near Perham at Four Seaons Resort. We’ve been here three days and have caught basically nothing. Can anyone give me some advice on walleyes here? Where to go and good baits for this lake? I’ll take any advice on any type of fish you might experience with on this lake. Never been here before.....
  5. Ended up going out to the South end of the lake this weekend. Did ok for bites not knowing the lake so only brought home one pike. Saw quite a few more but they were all too big to keep with the 24-36 slot in effect. Biggest surprise was catching a small pout on my first cast yesterday. Definitely a river lake.
  6. Just kinda curious to hear if anyone hit the chain this weekend...specifically if they fished the river? I fished the lakes because of the water temps, but was just curious if people had success on the river. I found the typical situation for spring, fish shallower then you think you should fish. I caught all of my eyes in less then 10 FOW, and most in 7 FOW right off any weed edge you could find. Caught a few cats, one shallow with some eyes, then saw a school of fish on a break, thought they might be a group of female eye, and turned out to be a big school of c
  7. In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy. Thank you!! Your sacrifice and courage gave us a country where we can pursue our dreams without the fear of others denying our freedom, essential liberty and ability to pursue happiness. Thank you. I promise your sacrifice has not been made in vain. I will always be vigilant protecting what you so courageously bought for all of us. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Courage and love, over fear and hatred...ALWAYS! THANK YOU VETERANS who gave everything that we
  8. Hey folks, First post here. I've really wanted to get into smallmouth fishing. It's hard to track down reports about rivers and creeks, so I was wondering if there are any nice smallmouth creeks around Ottertail County. I live about 50 miles into southeast ND and I have a couple cabins I can stay at around Otter Tail. I would really appreciate any information you are willing to share. Thank you!
  9. Has anyone fished a small lake near Cross Lake called Velvet Lake? I am looking at property on the lake and may have to make a decision before exploring the lake! Thank you for any information. mark hooksetter
  10. On the south end... An awesome week of ice fishing. Most anglers fishing in 27 - 33' of water. Ice conditions on LOW remain excellent. Use combo of jigging line and deadstick. Work your lines, keep jigging and keeping minnow on deadstick active. It will pay dividends. Some good colors overall, pink / gold, glow, chartreuse / white. Electronics helping to catch suspended walleyes. Pike activity has increased with some big fish being caught. Tip ups and big baits on quick strike rigs the norm. This is bonus ice fishing on Lake of the Woods. As a border waters area with Canada, fish h
  11. Who’s ready for pre spawn? Water temps on the river should be getting close right? I lived on the Minnesota River most my life now I’m stuck in central and I’m not a lake fishing guy. Anyone off the Minnesota, Mississippi, or St. Croix have any updates on water temps in those rivers, feel free to reply! I’m scratchin to go cat’n ! Going out this weekend to fill the bait tank with some bullheads.
  12. Our first ice report of the year. Currently up to around 50 yards off our landing we have 6 inches of really good ice. Almost all areas did have a little water on top of the ice and a few had some slushy areas. We will let it set up over the couple of days and then if all goes well start to stake a few trails out. Stay tuned for more updates.
  13. Catfishing the Red River? In the F/M area? What works best for catfishing in the F/M area? Whats the contour of the Red River like for someone to see where to fish? Are any of the dam spots good for catfishing? What has worked for you?
  14. Crazy request, looking for lakes to bring a few kids just to catch sheephead. I know of Norway lake west of New London and Waconia, these make go teaching tools for kids to practice fighting. Plus they are good on a smoker, and can be used for leech bait as well as bullheads.

  16. For the first time in 52 years I skipped fishing opener due to the conflicting rules. My fishing partner called directly to the State DNR office and was told the officers could ticket you and the consequences were $700 fine and/or 30 days in jail. I don't believe that's even legal. I wasn't willing to put up with it so we all cancelled. It's more dangerous walking into Wally World. Anybody else cancel?
  17. Hello Friends, can't wait until Saturday, actually Thursday when we get up there. Does anyone have some good grilled or baked walleye recipes? Not to sound snotty, but getting a bit tired of the varieties on fried walleye. We tried to do a citrus one on the grill which was decent, but wanted to see more options. Thanks
  18. Let's hear how you're doing. Please help by sharing your fishing report here. Thanks.
  19. Kiddos had a blast. The River is hot right now! Fishies got the feedbag on bigtime. We were using nightcrawlers mostly. Crank/spinners or minnows will work fine too (as others down the shore (more than 6 feet away of course) were having good luck.) One fun story: I get a smallie on. I can tell he's all tied up in another line. ...But it's not one of our lines and at that time, there's no one else around... ? Turns out, the fish has a hook lodged deep in the throat with a long leader of line hanging out it's mouth with a swivel--my hook snagged the knot of line/swivel! Long and sh
  20. Am I able to bass fish quarry park? The trout season hasn’t started and I was wondering if that affects anything. I know that there are largemouth and smallmouth in the quarries. I will not be keeping any fish. I am catch and release only.
  21. Decided to go check out one of my shore spots for early spring pan fish. Man was it good timing. Fish were stack in the shallows. Quick limit of crappies and home for dinner. Now on to Bass opener Saturday. Good luck everyone!
  22. Any early ice out predictions? Never too early too start... How was the season-end Vermilion ice conditions....integrity and thickness....overall compared to last year? I barely got out due to projects. Hoping for a warm April!
  23. I'm taking my family to Johnson Lake first week of July this summer. I've found little to no info on fishing up there. Anyone help out? Thanks!
  24. Looking to fish the red for the first time, never fished a river before. Just looking for some advice for finding some walleye/sauger around the FM area, looking to stay within 10-15 minutes of town. I have some gum drop jigs and plastics i plan on using. Just maybe looking for some advice on where to even begin the hunt, or even what to look for? I appreciate any help. Thank you!
