  1. I've been going up to the areas mentioned for 20 plus years now and ended up buying a cabin in the Bovey area. Looking to hear and share some fishing reports about the surrounding lakes. Never keep much besides some pesty northerns and panfish (which are plentiful) for the occasional lunch. So, I highly respect the area, but if you know the area at all, you will never be able to fish all its lakes in a lifetime... so some well informed fishing reports is always welcome. Again, I emphasize "smaller lakes," because the bigger ones (Jessie, Round, Wabana, etc) all have fishing reports available.

Hackensack, Longville, Walker MN area fishing reports also. Questions welcome too. Fishing Reports by the TOP Leech Lake Guides, Charter Captains & Resorts are in here. 3. When was the last time you heard anyone rant and rave about Eurasian Water Milfoil? Introduced to MN in 1987 and through the 90’s, we complained, complained, blamed the DNR, cried that this invasive weed was going to kill off many fish because the invasive plant overtook native vegetation. DNR, lake associations and others monitored lake assesses for years to prevent transfer to no avail. Were creatures of habit and don’t like change. And NO Eurasians Water Milfoil did not kill off all the fish, as lots of fish still are caught along the much easier defined weed lines. Of the 388 DNR reported
  4. I’ll be on Birch Lake - Ely - in late July. Anyone familiar with good spots?
  5. So after returning to Minnesota after living pretty much everywhere else, I have finally returned to fishing. Didn't realize how much I missed it until I started again. I'm tired of fishing the river under the bridge like a troll so I'm looking for some good spots to shore fish around Ottertail. My regular spot is too warm now and the fish have moved on. I'm one of the odd balls who's not into muskies or walleyes. Really prefer bluegill and bass. I'm a bobber, nightcrawler and beer kinda girl. Any advice on where to go? How are the lakes in Maplewood State Park.
  6. Had a fun time camping at Bowstring and fishing monday to wednesday. 95 % I would say were using jig and minnow. We fished crawlers cuz it's what we do... lol Brought 100 up there from the back yard. Didn't bring any home. Caught 32 altogether. Had a nice meal monday p.m. and brought a few home, the rest stayed there. We brought 16 nice perch back home also. Water was about 54 in the morning and would get up to 60 or so. Fish were deeper than we have fished in the past. 14 to 20 was a good area. Hope to get back up there the end of June for a couple days and then in September. Brother in la
  7. Me and my buddy are here in emily MN for the next couple days, we both love fishing and wanted to take a shot in the dark at finding someone that could get us out on the water fishing. We would pay you and pay for gas.
  8. Just got back from our annual Grand Marais trip. Fishing was pretty good, despite this being the latest in the month I’ve ever been up there. This year was always planned to be a camping trip, but because several of the campgrounds are still closed (including the one I planned to stay at), I luckily was able to get a spot on Flour Lake. Weather was darn near perfect the whole week. We setup camp slower than expected, so we got a really late start on West Bearskin. Only caught 5 bass. But I didn’t fish any of the normal spots I hit. Tuesday, we fished Hungry Jack Lake. Holy cow was th
  9. On the south end... Great walleye fishing this week. Lots of limits, plenty of larger slot fish (19.5" - 28") and trophy walleyes (over 28"). The MTT Photo and Release Walleye Tournament winners had over a 9 lb average each for 5 fish both days of the tournament. Lots of big walleyes in the lake. Different parts of the lake have different things happening. In some areas, the mayfly hatch was over. In other areas, it was just firing up. Fishing was better where the hatch was not in full force. The go to presentations are spinners with crawlers or trolling crankbaits. Nice schoo
  10. On the south end... In addition to anglers catching good numbers of eater walleyes, there are a lot of big walleyes being caught and released. Now is that deep summer pattern anglers look forward to. Two main techniques. Drifting or pulling spinners with crawlers or leeches. Hammered gold, glow white and glow red are good colors. The second technique is trolling crankbaits over the deep mud. Trolling is a fun technique with no snags, miles and miles of space and thousands of walleyes. 29-34' has been best. Still some walleyes are being caught in various shallow areas based on forage o
  11. - Subscribe to this fishing report. Just curious if anyone has been on the Lake ice fishing by Frontenac? What are the ice conditions like? Just looking to walk out, been itching to use my brand new ice shack! Also how is the bite? Thanks DB
  12. Just returned from our annual trip to Cass. 7 of us had a nice week. Saw several eagles during the week too. It was windy and the effects of Cristobal also brought very cool weather for most of the week. We hit Pike Bay twice, Dick's Bay twice, and Allen's Bay twice with success on Rockies and Gills and a few Largemouth and Perch. The wind and waves kept us from Kitchi and also from our evening walleye fishing after dinner. And we only landed a single Pike all week among the seven of us. We had no luck at all in the Landing Strip area from N of Birch Villa all the way down t
  13. We usually go to Canada but obviously we can't this year. Booked a resort on Vermillion mid Aug. Never fished it, this will probably be the only time. Any advice on where to start? We fish walleye, northern, and smallies. Obviously not looking for exact spots but just general info. If you can help me out with a spot or two and can email me even better and much appreciated. We only harvest to eat for the days we are having a fish fry during our stay. Thanks!
  14. I haven't seen any reports locally this year. The other forums all have updated reports.
  15. The Leech Lake walleyes are on the move and our guides have been chasing them! With a recent fly hatch and some heat moving in this week has been a grind but we are still finding limits. A few keys to putting fish in the boat have been the location, the presentation and the wind. Most of our fish have been on Sucker bay and the main lake. Duck point, Ottertail point and Stoney point have all been good and putting out fish. We have been focusing on the 11-14 feet of water and covering ground has been important. Both Duck and Ottertail points have nice break lines that top out around
  16. So looking at some property on long lake right by Ottertail lake and wondering how the fishing is on it and the depths on it? Thanks for any information!!!!
  17. Got out on Fathers day with the Kayak down the Mississippi River for some good ole Smallmouth Bass action. River was low which made a great float and the smallies were hungry! They just couldn't resist the wacky worm once again. We have such an amazing fishery here in MN, glad to call this state home. Enjoy.
  18. 7.6.20 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report Minnesota Lake of the Woods Walleye action continues in less than 10’ casting Rapala’s, floating leeches or pulling crawlers in rocks and sand bays. Walleye are also showing back up on classic structure including points and main lake reefs. Trolling deep diving Rapala’s has been producing very large pike and slot walleye in 12 to 18 ft. of water. Lake of the Woods Musky opener was successful in shallow, weeded areas. With one over 50” boated and the rare 49.5” as well as many mid 40” fish. With water temps increasing into t
  19. any current musky info? Looking for new water since can’t get to LOW.

I was looking to go sturgeon fishing on the st croix river, what parts of the river hold a fish-able population of sturgeon. i was hoping to be near st croix or wild river state parks.
  21. Hey everyone, Normally I don’t ask for help but I’ve been skunked last three summers on Side lake / Sturgeon Lake Chain for walleye. I’ve spent most time on Big Sturgeon and Side for eyes but have come up short. I’m heading up for a long weekend and hoping to change my luck with some advice. I’d appreciate anything as it’s been a grind... thanks !!
  22. On the south end... The lake just keeps producing walleyes. Good fishing in numerous spots across the south shore, near the Lighthouse and Morris Point Gaps in 8-10' and around Garden Island. Big numbers of walleyes also staged over deep mud in 25 - 31'. Most anglers drifting or trolling harnesses (spinners) with crawlers or leeches. Hammered gold is hard to beat but glow, pink, chartreuse and orange are also popular in the stained water. Some fish are still being caught jigging on structure or rock to mud transitions. Anglers catching plenty of eater walleyes along with good numbers of
  23. The week is fast approaching (July4-11) and the boys (and the three dads) are excited. Any advice (species is far less important than consistent action) would be greatly appreciated. Staying mid-lake so east or west are options. Thanks and good fishing!
  24. Opener 2020 tomorrow - anyone here going out? Heck with the full moon tonight this weekend should be really good. If I get to spend some time out it’ll be in central MN. The river maybe, or Alexander. Shamineau is on my list this year as I’ve never fished it at all. Plenty of lakes to try. I’d like to see what you guys are pulling in this year! Hear some stories or good advice! I hope to have some to share.
