  1. We will be stayin on Lake Osakis in a week and a half and was wondering what to expect for fishing. We would like to get into some pan fish and walleyes. What areas should we focus on in order to target these fish. Have never been to this lake before and was hoping any of you could share some tips and tricks in order to help us find some fish. What techniques and colors are working the best. Thanks in advance for any and all help. Also I do have the lakemaster chip and will be bringing it with. Grizzly
  2. Great info below and newer reports are on the pages that follow. Anyone been out hitting the wally's hard on Cass Lake? if so has there been a time frame where theres more action during the day? and has anyone found a certain depth that there hanging around in? and hows the night bite ? How about other fish?
  3. fishing reports from the shores of upper red lake. We /Phil and I got out yesterday just for a hour before I had to go to work. Managed two fat keepers and missed a couple of fish. We were fishing down where the water get a little deeper closer to shore .Alll Our fish and misses came in six feet of water. Phil was dragging a orange floating jig with a lindy sinker about 12 inches up the line while I was slow trolling a gold and red spinner. Phil got both keepers while all I could do is swing and miss. It was still nice to see Phil catch a couple as I usaly outfish him.
  4. I have been thinking it would be nice to have a thread for fishing reports specifically on the West End lake. Everyone knows that the east has more walleyes so it seems most of the reports are geared toward the east end. Not always, but it often seems The fishing report from the east vs west can be very different and I think a separate thread might help people (myself included) out who fish the west end.

  8. Hit the ice for the first time today about 6 inches of ice and lots of slush 3-5 inches deep. The snitch handled the work load with amazing results. The busy end was the smallest pug bug with a maki mino the crappies were racing up am crushing it. The gills would come up slowly but would eat it. Had a 3 to 4 pound walleye break me off in the top of the hole.

  12. Hello, from Sunset Lodge! Fishing has picked up significantly this week. In Minnesota, high winds limited fishing areas but many of our guests were able to find the walleyes stacked up on the humps pulling spinners. Gold and green crawler harnesses are working the best. In Canada, working a slower presentation such as a lift and drag technique has been most effective. Limits of walleye are being caught using gold and chartreus colors in 18-22 ft. Key areas have been Deepwater Bay, Monkey Rocks and the west side of Falcon Island. Smallmouth fishing has been heating up as well, using a jig and plastic on the rocks. We hope to see you soon! Sunset Lodge

  14. Glad to hear the east end has some good ice, but dont assume that the whole lake does. I was just out in the central part of the lake and some areas still only have 3" of ice. And that was areas with no current and some of the first spots to freeze. Steve

  18. In Minnesota, walleye fishing has been fantastic! Using a jig and minnow or a bobber rig, walleye can be had anywhere from 3-15 feet in the evening and 18-25 during the day. Pink and white, chartreuse or blue and white jigs have been the most productive. Canadian walleye are being found a little deeper at 22-26 feet. Many nice fish were caught this last week, multiple 26-28 inch and a very nice 30 incher. A jig and frozen shiner is the go to, however a freshly dead fathead works equally as well. Surface water temps are in the high 50’s at sunrise, reaching mid to upper 60’s by evening after this sunny Memorial day weekend!
  19. - Subscribe to this fishing report. Ice conditions still vary greatly from lake to lake. While seven to ten iches of pretty good ice, due to our lack of snow cover, is common, still use caution. Channel areas on Minnetonka, for example, may have much less ice than that. Walking, with or without a portable house like a Clam Fish Trap is a safe bet on Prior and Waconia, and many areas of Minnetonka. ATVs should be cautious, and I would wait to put out wheel houses, especially with another four day stretch of near-record to record temps that is upon us. Panfish are biting on Waconia and Prior. They are working deep water already, 18 to 23 feet, probably due to no snow cover on top of relatively thin ice for this time of year. Try the center of deep bays or coves, or the deep basin areas not too far from bays or shoreline points. We are catching bluegills all day, with peak time being early in the morning, and AFTER DARK. Crappies are getting nocturnal, so try staying out after dark. Small jigs with waxies or micro-sized Gulp! are catching both, and a crappie minow under a float is catching crappies and even some waleyes and pike in these same areas. Good luck, and be safe!

  21. I thought it was about time to post how the first 10 days of the season have gone for my wife and myself. Things started out pretty slow for us. We found the fish virtually everywhere we expected them with sonar but only a scattered "biter" here and there. The bite has really picked up for us since about last Thursday. We are finding a more consistent bite in specific areas(as opposed to here and there) and the depths have been 23'-32'. All of our fish the last couple of days including today came from steep shoreline breaks with the optimum depth being 27'. Bottom varies from mud to gravel to rock. With the exception of one "leech" fish, we have caught everything on rainbows. Backtrolling and controlled drift has been our presentation. The biggest walleye we have caught so far has been a 24". We have caught very few slot fish so far this spring. 14"-15" fish have been far and away the most numerous and we have caught a sprinkling of 16" and over fish. I have stayed with my bottom bouncer rig and my wife has used the traditional Lindy rig with a no-snag sinker. By the way, they're just kidding when they call those things "no-snag". The dock bite has really picked up also. We go down for an hour or so in the evening and have a ball watching the bobbers go down. Most of our bite is before we even turn on the bobber lights! Water temperatures today were 52.3 degrees in the far east end of Big Bay, 56.6 degrees at Moose Island, and 58.9 degrees at Banana Island. It appears fishing will keep getting better, but then again, what do I know? I'm retired! Don't think for a second that this is all fun ! Good Fishing, MarkB
