    Spring Turkey

Have not been here in sometime. Thought this would be a good opportunity to get back on here. Got out for the C season, arriving just before sunrise and the birds were already on the ground. Started with an aggressive calling sequence "Purr into a loud Yelp" there were birds North and West of my location responding. This guy decided to take a look about 30 minutes later. He got within 5 feet of my blind full strut. Something I have never heard before he started to hiss at the decoy. Not a great shot at that range but sealed the deal.
  3. Very nice! I was kicking myself real hard this weekend for forgetting my fish finder at home. I did manage to bring this smallie in, but they were tough to pattern for me and this was the only noteworthy fish of the weekend. Hope the water temps come up and I can get back next weekend!
  4. Nice boat Raven! I think I saw you out buzzing around in Wakemup this weekend!
  5. I got out on the Cass Lake chain this weekend with a group of 10. We found walleyes still hanging out shallow and scattered. Jigging with shiners or gulp in 4-10 fow got several walleyes in the livewell. With the heavy wind we also had a good daytime crank bite. In the evening trolling cranks was productive as well. Saturday morning I stuck a 43" musky trolling for eyes. Not a great photo but I was fishing by myself and wanted to get it released quickly. Panfish were hard to pin down with them bouncing shallow and then disappearing with each weather change. With wind gusting to 25+ miles per hour finesse presentations were difficult. Water temps ranged from 53-60 degrees.
  6. I have to agree, always enjoy your videos Curt. Fun to see what is happening even from the southern part of the state...Keep em coming...
  7. Chad, was that on the West end? My turn to follow you around 😀. I'll be back up Thursday night!!
  8. Yesterday
  9. Swim 9 am this morning. No idea on temp but Major Shrinkage. Coolimoolio! keep on rocken! T
  10. Spent a couple hours on German. Slow fishing, just a couple small sunnies, the boy and I where happy to be out though. Water temperature ranged from mid 60s to mid 70s. No fresh vegetation and dirty water. Must still be running a bit behind despite the warm weather.
  11. Got to get the first fish guts on it yesterday!
  12. Interesting. So the sows are still in shallow? We fished 10-24' the past 3 days and have done well with a lot of 14-18" eyes using Lindy rigs and rainbows.
  13. Here's my new boat. Saw probably 30 Verados in the past 3 days on the east and and west ends.
  14. We had two fishing tournaments this weekend. Walleyes on Saturday and bass on Sunday. I met the bass winners today and talked to them about their walleye win Saturday. That’s right, they won both! On Saturday, they entered the walleye tournament but just because they were on the lake to pre-fish for bass. They fished with stick baits in shallow water, looking for bass beds. As shallow as 4’. And dang if they didn’t keep catching walleyes. Big ones, including 2 over 26”. 21 lbs. in all. Apparently, they’re pretty good at finding bass, too. Big $ weekend for them!
  15. Ugly Saturday on Norwegian Bay. One Pike off of Windsock Island, nothing else much to speak of. Cold and windy but finished off with a beautiful Evening. There were a couple of good eyes caught near the north end, a 27" and a couple in the slots but most boats didn't see much. I saw 2 caught in front of the beach at Life of Riley in a matter of a couple minutes. Sunday morning we met up with some friends and went out of Tower. Dragging bottom bouncers with minnows in 24-32' produced 11 keepers between the 4 of us, largest about 16" and lots of throw backs. Best luck just off of Priest Island. 4 hours of fishing with everyone except me pulling them in the boat until the last 10 minutes I put two in the livewell. I broke off with 10 minutes to go and was going to quit when everyone said "no, keep going!" Glad I did cause I finished strong and redeemed myself. Never give up!

    St. Croix River Fishing Reports

Went to Franconia on Saturday. Wind was cold and miserable! With it howling straight downstream, my options were pretty limited, so we mostly trolled up and down the main channel. Caught 1 pike, 2 smallies, and 1 white bass.

    Spring time

Things seem to be moving right along. Yesterday on a small Cass county lake we found sunfish and crappies in 6ft+/- ft of water with some crappies already on beds.
  18. Looks like it was a successful outing ST. My boat probably hates me as I haven't had it out for a swim yet. MAYBE, if I'm lucky I will be able to get out over Memorial weekend. Thanks for the report.

    Northeast trout streams?

Most of the streams are small. Where I focus is the small streams in the back country for brook trout. Casting is hard on these streams. Some of the bigger rivers can be good. Remember the crazy rules on these streams.

Wow Eyeguy you can catch them and panfish. Keep it up and let’s hear about some details.
  21. The walleye bite is heating up around the area. Bass are on the beds and panfish are keeping most anglers busy. Remember the new pike regs are in place now. Good luck and let’s hear some reports and see some more photos!! Thank you to all that check my reports. I am off to get some fishing in.
  22. Hello everyone, please check out the fishing report clubs. I believe the first few members can get in free. I hope you are all doing well fishing and hunting. I look forward to reading your reports. If you any questions just ask. thank you, monstermoose

The last few days have been pretty hot on areas of the river for a lot of nice bass between 16-18 inches, topping out at 19 inches for my largest. Many were fish located on spawning beds, some hitting aggressively and immediately, and some not interested in even acknowledging the bait. I started out with a 4 inch wacky worm on a VMC wacky weedless jighead, but found that I was getting larger, more aggressive fish by switching to a 5 inch wacky. I would Imagine that the spawn will be all but over within a few days.

  26. Hi folks... I wanna specifically address fishermen and women, boaters, outdoorsmen and women, and their spouses and significant others. Also, anyone who believes that our right to access public waterways supported by our tax dollars, and managed for our benefit by the DNR, should not be infringed upon by special interests... listen up... You may or may not know about a new program in Wright County to limit access to three lakes in the Annandale area where wealthy lake-home associations have coerced the County Board into implementing a pre-launch "AIS Inspection Station" in the city of Annandale. Anyone wishing to launch a watercraft on Lakes Sylvia, Pleasant, and John, must first travel to the city of Annandale (miles away from any boat landing), go through an inspection process, and be given permission to launch their boat in the form of a zip-tie on the trailer. There are MANY problems with this inspection regime. One problem is its hours of operation. It is open from sunup to sundown. This means that if you wish to go fishing in the evening, or at night, or early in the morning, you must first travel to Annandale THE DAY BEFORE you wish to access the lake, and get your zip-tie. Needless to say, this will undoubtedly prove to be a big enough burden on boaters and anglers that many will simply choose to go elsewhere, which, we contend, is the unstated goal of the Lake Associations who have funded this effort to lobby the County Board. They want non-residents off "their" lake. Another problem is the fact that these lakes are already unfortunately infested with AIS, which means inspecting boats on the way IN to the lake makes no logical sense. Only inspecting boats in their way OUT of an infested lake will have any chance of slowing or halting the spread of AIS. Another problem is that local businesses in Annandale, Southhaven, and to a lesser extent Clearwater and Maple Lake, will be adversely affected by the reduction in commerce that WILL occur as people from outside these fine communities decide to take their watercraft elsewhere. Another problem is the scope of this program, and the stated goals of those who are promoting it. They have said point-blank that they hope to have every county in MN look to Wright County as an example of what can be pushed through, as Lake Associations state-wide are organizing their resources and their political clout in an effort to see similar County ordinances implemented throughout Minnesota. This could, in the future, lead to a scenario where every boater who does not own lake property will first be required to travel to a central County Inspection Station in whatever county they wish to launch their boat, before they will be given permission to launch at a lake that may be many miles away from the station. We believe this is an infringement on the rights of Minnesota boaters and sportsmen to freely and responsibly access our public waterways. Even the DNR is skeptical of this program, but since it is a county matter, they are accepting it for now. Sorry for the lengthy statement. Now I'd like to ask you to take action. We have organized a social media page, over 600-strong now.... Our goal is to gather as many concerned people as we can in this group - and then appeal to the Chambers of Commerce in these fine cities, to organize themselves and appeal to the County Board for a reversal of this misguided policy, on the grounds that it will harm them economically as people take their dollars elsewhere to avoid the infringement of the inspection regime. If you haven't already, and you are concerned about liberty to access public waterways without undue burdens placed upon your access, would you consider lending your voice to ours, and joining our group? Thank you! Join Us!
  27. Actually, merc has Verado and "four strokes" . I have seen a fair number of mercs on west end but very few verado which have a distinct silhouette.
