We started out on a small lake that is known for having some some good sized sunfish. After all my years of chasing fish through the ice and open water it still amazes me the amount of excitement, anticipation, and anxiety that I get from the start of a new day of fishing. I pray those feelings stay with me forever! We worked really hard to find the fish on this lake but it didnt pan out. We easliy drilled a couple hundred of holes with our Strikemaste solo’s from one end of the lake to the other looking for these fish. What a pleasure it has been this year cutting holes with this auger. It has allowed me to be much more mobile and willing to find active fish instead of waiting for them to find me.
At 10am with only a few smaller sunfish caught our group decided to pull the plug and head to a different body of water known for good quality crappies. While this lake can humble the best of anglers, I had a few spots from years past that were proven producers. Once again we cut a ton of holes and used our marcum flashers to search out active fish. Success for me came on a small diamond jig tipped with euro larve. Others caught fish on fatboys tipped with spikes, and T.H.E. Jig in the hundreth ounce took fish as well. We were fishing in 22 fow in a depression that was surrounded by shallower water. The school of fish we targeted stayed in this area but were constantly on the move. We really had to hole hop to stay on top of them.
It was a fun day of fishing and everyone in our group did some catching. As I write this it is 10 minutes to six on Saturday morning. My alarm is set for six am and I am starting to get a funny feeling in my stomach. I am going fishing today. Good luck if you are too and hope to.see you on the ice.
