Boy were we ready to take a canoe trip! The summer had been a busy one (thanks to all our great customers!), and we needed a break.
We drove to Shagawa Lake to the seaplane dock and waited for our plane. We had planned to leave around 10:00 a.m., but the plane was late, and we finally lifted off at 11:45 a.m.
We watched the landscape as we flew over the lakes. We saw Newton, Pipestone, Canadian Agnes, Kahshahpiwi, and Saganagons just to name a few. We were originally going to drop in at Clay Lake, but the water levels were so low that it was changed to Bitchu, which is just south of there.
As we made our way across Bitchu to the western side we noticed lots of burned areas from the fires three to four years ago. We encountered a few liftovers in Bitchu where we had to get out of the canoe and walk it over the low spots. An osprey was circling the lake and another osprey was on the nest, screeching, possibly to its mate or maybe at some other creature.
