Pond/Lake Barley for Algae...

3 posts in this topic

One of the local print/online papers has an article about clearing up algae with barley straw. Decomposition attracts microbes yadda yadda, phosphorus is removed. Anyone out there seen this or know about it?

I would think the decomposition of the straw would take Oxygen out of the water affecting the fish (not that the algae is any good either)

Decomposition does decrease oxygen levels. Many lake owners are more concerned about "aesthetic" issues than environmental.
