Good luck to all who travel from Cologne to Chaska!!

Hwy 5 should be fun for the next 6 weeks.

even the dirt roads are all closed. I feel a little traped.

140 has actually been closed for quite a while where 147 intersects to 212 in Chaska - it is tough getting around out this way frown.gif

Correct!

140 is also closed.

Basically every road, including the little dirt ones, is closed that is north of 212 and south of 5. If you need to be anywhere north of the river you have to take 5 and if you want to be south of the river you can head south out of Cologne and go to 169 in Jordan.

I am not sure how long it will be but roomer has it that it will be 6 weeks.

Also a heads up. Yesterday I thought I might be able to make it threw on 212 and I got pulled over by the cops. She was real nice but informed me that there will ONLY be local traffic allowed.

Try working in Chaska! Pioneer Trail is closed. Bluff Creek Road is closed. Audobon will be closed on friday. Cnty road 10 is closed. now 212 is closed. The only major north south road open is 41 and the only major east west is hwy 5!!!!!

Just wait, 284 from Wac to Cologne is also closing in about a month. You will need a helocopter to get into Wacoina.

Guys, 212 will only be closed for a month, but then that is when 284 will close. Other options for for Western Carver County Folk to to take 140 east to County 43 North to County 10/Engler Blvd and take that east into Chaska.

This does suck. But in a year or two when 212 is finally done, it'll all be worth it...for awhile until it really starts to grow out in God's country!!

I get to drive from Lakeville to Hutch every day (at least for a while yet) and I forgot until I got to Chaska on Monday. It really only took an extra 10 minutes or so to go up to 7. Changed my route through Jordan now though and there sure is a lot of traffic that way too (assumably for the same reason I'm there). My wife is having a tough time getting to downtown too with the work on Cedar and the 35W/62 work about to get into fully swing so it's not just you guys on 212.

Milling off the old blacktop, adding turn lanes, and prepping the site where the New 212/312 will connect to it. Pain in the A##, but it needed to be done. Some sections of 212 were in pretty bad shape. I just wish they would have done a little more planning. It's almost impossible to get through Chaska. Morning or evening! mad.gif

It is a pain. I was on my way to work on friday morning, and witness as head on crash by hwy 25. Man, what a reality check. It was the car in front of me that was hit. Everyone ended up ok.

I have been taking back roads to jordan, from cologne, to get to shakopee. The problem is, its adding 15 mins on the time. Ya there is not traffic, but man, i cant wait till they get it all back to normal.

I was in cologne on Suday for a grad party and came through belle plaine on my way there...on the way home I noticed 212 was closed and I had no clue how to get back to Shakopee without backtracking to BP or Waconia....so I played dumb and took 212....made it all the way through without a problem...good thing it was a sunday I guess. There still were a bunch of cars on it for being closed though.

It was definitely closed....there were a few spots where they made us get off the main road and take temporary parralell gravel roads where they have it dug up

I'm sure I got lucky...i could tell I wasn't supposed to be on it

It's still open to Co Rd 40. (Carver) But then you have to take Co Rd 50 till you you get to Gotha. Then back North to 212.

I would take 169 west to Jordan take a right on to 45 north, take a left on to 50 west, then take a right on to 53 North and then jump on 212 West (right by cologne) all the way to Granite Falls smile.gif Its fast and there isnt much traffic that way!!! smile.gif

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
