First time out

2 posts in this topic

So I finally caved in and bought myself a flyrod outfit Saturday, I took it out today for some panfish and crappies, WHAT A BLAST!!!

I picked up a cheap combo from Dicks, it was a Pfluefer Medallion Pro 5wt 9ft6inch. I had no idea what to throw, so I used a gold head prince nymph and the fish hit it almost every cast until the fly was destroyed. It definately made fishing for sunnies fun again, and would recommend it to anyone even thinking about trying it. After about 5 minutes I figured out casting, it really isnt that hard.

Hopefully I will figure out what types of stuff to throw at the smallies in our rivers, that sounds even more fun!

I sense another whose about ready to be overwhelmed by the fly fishing addition...now start tying your own flies and it's all over for you! Isn't it a great feeling?

there is a mess being created out there ladies and gentleman. Be careful. Slush is sneaky. It looks like March out on the ice, not January. Deep slush and standing water, tricky conditions for vehicles and people. Saw a lot of flooded houses today in four mile bay.    Fishing for our group was the same as it's been all season. So Slow It Hurts.   But it sure was fun to be able to fish outside.    On a side note, I picked up nearly a dozen boards left behind from wheelhouses. With all this water and slushy conditions, I agree boards are needed. Just please take them with you or chisel them out. These things can cause a lot of damage to some expensive equipment come open water....

I feel like every time I ice fish in the rain the fish are going nuts...Went out today on a lake in the Duluth area and just pounded the crappies and gills(100+fish)..All the gills were 8-9" and the crappies were 10-12"... Best bait was a glow majum jig with a glow plastic...
